"It was worth the drive you can go as fast as you want on the dirt road, like others has said till the ranger station. You can even camp there also if you want."
"It is appropriately a 2.5 hour drive from Kanab UT to get here, and the last mile is 4 wheel drive primitive road. You need a permit to go the last mile or so as there is a ranger station and checkpoint before the road gets rough. This is the only point where there is a 3000ft drop to the canyon floor. It's not as wide as the popular places, but you can see all of the way down. We went on the Sunday before Memorial Day, and we passed maybe 8 cars the whole trip. There were maybe 20 people there. There are 2 picnick tables there as well as public toilets. The view is incredible, and because of the wet winter, there were flowers all along the way as we drove to it."
"It's a minimum of 56 miles on a dirt road to get here. To prevent a flat, you really can't drive faster than 30 mph in any section, sharp limestone hidden by smooth dirt and sand causes most flat tires. Driving slower reduces the chances of a puncture, obviously avoid sharp rocks if you can. We took route 5 south to 115 south, there are signs along the way. Cell service (even Verizon) drops about six miles from Colorado City, there is a staffed ranger station at the National Park entrance. Bring a spare tire, air pump, and sealant. The road is very good until the last 2.7 miles to the overlook. There is a place to park and walk the remaining road, dogs are allowed on the road. Our Subaru did fine until 1/2 mile to the overlook, at that point the Forester just didn't have enough clearance to climb several rock outcroppings, so we parked and walked the rest of the way. Very easy level walk. We brought sandwiches, there are several picnic tables and even a bathroom. It really is a straight drop into the canyon of several thousand feet. While magnificent, hang on to pets and children."
"Well worth the trip. From St. George it's 85 miles. Very easy trail for any 4x4 or UTV. The views are almost unreal. You can get right up to the edge of the Grand Canyon without any obstruction. Recommend this far more than the South Rim. Best views of the Colorado River we've ever seen. To the west you can easily see the lava flows from the north rim and some rapids in the river. The picnic tables are a nice surprise and a great way to have lunch looking at these views."
"This is one of my most favorite places on this earth that I have been to. For much of our visit we were the only people there enjoying an amazing view and lunch of the Grand Canyon. Rare there are not guard rails or safety blocks from the canyon and is a little freaky to have such a steep drop off. It was a little ride to get out there which was beautiful, but I would go again in a heartbeat. Nice bathrooms and parking for 10-15 vehicles. If you have a side by side, it’s so nice to finish the last 5-10 miles of the trip. A Subaru would make it, it’s really not that bad, it’s just the potential of not have good tires."
