"I used JH in the past, and they were ok. This year, I am in the middle of moving out of state just as taxes are due. Knowing it would be quite difficult to complete taxes on time, I went to my usual office at 19th Ave. and Union Hills in Phoenix, requesting assistance with an extension only. I brought all my supporting documents with me. The preparer I spoke with told me that rather than filing an extension, she believed they could prepare the entire return in time. I was a bit skeptical, but I told her that if she truly felt that, then by all means, give it a shot. I left all my docs with them and left, after they assured me they would be in touch soon. Saturday, April 16 rolls around and I have not heard a word. In the midst of feverish packing, I call to find out the status of my return. I speak with Joyce, who sounds quite annoyed and bothered that I would be calling to ask. She tells me my return has not been prepared yet, but would be that day. I said fine, and hang up. Fast forward to Monday morning, the day of the tax deadline. Still not one word. I call a couple of times again, and get Joyce again, who is just as dismissive and put out as before. She tells me she will call me back in a bit when she finds out the status of my return. Fine, I have a notary coming in a bit to finish the sale of my house, so I reluctantly agree. After the notary leaves, and she STILL has not called back, I call her, AND THE OFFICE IS CLOSED FOR THE SEASON AND WILL NOT REOPEN UNTIL 2023! I speak to the receptionist, who tells me an extension was filed , but I have no original documents, I have not signed any documents, and I have no idea what my return estimate even is. The receptionist tells me I can come into the year-round office anytime to complete the return and collect docs. Ummm, no, I can’t. As I explained when I first walked into that office, I am leaving in less than a week to move 2300 miles away, and I will NOT be flying back just to visit their main office. Also, there is no JH office in the state I will be moving to. So…if JH had just honored my request to begin with and prepared a simple extension instead of trying so hard to convince me they were able to complete my return when they clearly could not, and if they had been honest and truthful the multiple times I called to check up on my return instead of Joyce blowing me off in a most unprofessional and discourteous way, none of this would happen. I still own a house in AZ besides the one I just sold, and I will file taxes there again, but I will NEVER use JH again, nor will I ever recommend them to anyone. In fact, quite the opposite - I will make it a point to warn everyone I can away from them. What a miserable experience and screwed up office."
