Reviews of Banfield Pet Hospital
"Short version: I feel like Banfield tried to scam me, if I hadn't asked the right questions they would have been successful and ripped me off. They also have been giving my dogs unnecessary shots; I googled it and talked to many other pet owners. Also, it's nearly impossible to get them to answer the phone. Full version: I've been taking my little elderly man here for years. He was on a wellness plan so I could have his teeth cleaned once a year. He didn't do well being put under last time, so I decided not to try it again, discontinued his wellness plan. We got a new puppy about a year and a half ago, she's on a wellness plan. We brought both dogs in for exams and shots on December 19th. The puppy, who is 6 pounds, got all of her shots that day, no follow up needed. The other dog, who is 15 pounds and NOT on a wellness plan, didn't get all of his shots, and they told me to come back in a few weeks, as they don't like "making these little dogs into pin cushions". When I brought little man back in to complete his shots, I was told it would be $167.00 including another exam. I explained that we were just in a few weeks ago for an exam, just needed to complete shots. I was told they have to do an exam if they're going to give any shots. When I asked which shots he still needed, I was told it one was for dogs that go in lakes, hiking, have exposure to wild animal urine. I've googled it, this is not a routine vaccination. I have friends and family that live in areas where there are coyotes, javalina, etc., and their dogs have never had this vaccine either. So not only were they about to give him a shot he doesn't need, but since I don't pay $40 or whatever it is a month, they were going to charge me over $150.00 for this. I let them know that this feels like a scam, and would not be completing the appointment. I took the afternoon off from work for this appointment. My dog hates coming to the vet, it freaks him out every time. Again, this appointment was an unnecessary attempt to poke my dog for an extra $167 since I don't pay them $40 a month for a service I don't need. I'm glad that I had the comparison of having one dog on the monthly wellness plan and one that's not, otherwise I wouldn't have had a way (aside from other reviews) to know about this practice. I've trusted Banfield for several years, but after this, I will never take my pets here again."
"Bad customer service. 1. Scheduled an appointment and the person that scheduled it did not tell me it was a dropoff visit. 2. The nurse said my dog would be done by noon. Was not done till 2 pm. Would of been longer if I didn't call and complain. 3. Did not get to see the actual veterinarian."
"It's tough to remember or even want to relive the experience of bringing in your beloved pet and being told almost before you sit down in a room that they have passed. The staff took her in right away as she was seizing again when i arrived. But I got there too late. This was at about 2 am. The drive was from Coolidge, I averaged about 100 mph. But there was nothing they could do. It's still a bit too traumatic to think about. But they were very kind and allowed me time to regain my composure before I left."
"The staff was very welcoming and kind. My dog was trembling when I brought her in to be vaccinated and totally calm when I picked her up. Coco had a recent back injury and was acting so distant she didn't want to sit on my lap or sleep with me. The vet explained that because dogs are pack animals, they don't want others to know when they're hurt because it makes them look vulnerable. Hence, they separate themselves until they've healed. That reassured me and explained a lot about my pup's behavior. In a few days she was back to her normal, cuddly self."
"There are two locations in Banfield that I trust with my fur babies. One is Scottsdale off Miller. It has one of the best customer services. I will drive out of my way to have my fur babies be seen there."
