"Home Depot sells water heaters and then uses what appears to be an outside subcontractor to do installations. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the Home Depot employees know the full nature of this relationship nor is it easy to navigate through the subcontractor's requirements in order to determine what the cost is by buying the water heater through Home Depot versus buying it through the subcontractor or having the subcontractor pick it up at Home Depot and deliver it for their installation. All very complicated and likely not worth the effort."
