"My daughter did build on her swimming skills over the past 4 months of lessons; however, the communication and organization is awful. The instructors are unable to answer questions, there is no front desk and you can only communicate with the organizer via email, which means you are lucky to get a response within 2-4 days for rescheduling or cancellations. Weather cancellations also only go through email and will be sent a minute before the class is supposed to begin - obviously a texting system would be a better communication system for individuals driving to the lesson ~ but that is not an option. The required skills testing day is also incredibly disorganized with no ability to sign up for a specific time, and so you stand around for over an hour to have your child evaluated for about 20 seconds in the water."
"This is a great swim team!! The families are awesome, the board works extremely hard to make it the best team possible, and the the coaches: Matt, Carl, and Tyler are FANTASTIC. They don’t play favorites or treat anyone less based on speed or ability. The coaches see the potential each swimmer has and pushes them to achieve that potential. They worked so hard through the COVID process to make this the best. If you want to join a team this is the one to consider."
"We are so grateful to have found FAST swim team. They accommodated us when our former swim team recently shut down. Ends up it’s the best thing that could have happened for our ten year old son. He has never loved swimming as much as he does now. Coach Carl is excellent at teaching stroke technique and is fun when he does it. It’s obvious that he cares about these kids and loves the sport. Thank you FAST; we have found our new home."
"My daughter Izzy just joined the team this year. She took the summer off to visit her father. When she came back, we joined FAST. She was out of shape and out of practice. Coach Matt and Coach Carl have been, and I can’t stress this enough, AMAZING. Their attention to stroke and appropriate age based athletic conditioning is without compare. I can say this as a former top ranked high school swimmer, college water polo player and current high ranking masters swimmer. I can say this as a former Head Swim Coach both at the club team and state level. I recognize good coaching when I see it. This is good coaching. Let me tell you why. 1) Athlete development - stroke work is incorporated into every practice. The swimmers receive individual feedback and drills based on ability and skill. Some practices, Coach Matt even joins the kids in the pool to demonstrate skills while they safely watch from the side. His willingness to demonstrate the techniques her him respect but also give the swimmers confidence. 2) Training - children are placed in groups according to age and speed. Age group training requires a balance of stroke technique but also threshold training. Being in a group that is too fast or too slow for an athlete not only harms them mentally, but can also harm them physically as well. Both coaches are quick to recognize those athletes that are struggling and those that are excelling. They know the difference between a bad practice, a bad week, or a bad group placement and rearrange groups accordingly. They have honest and respectful conversations with athletes and parents and explain their choices with out belittling or ego harming. That is a very tough balance to have and both Coach Matt and Coach Carl have it. 3) Genuine care - Coach Matt and Coach Carl care not just about the program as a whole but each individual swimmer. You can see in their interactions the care they place on each athlete, from the super stars to the strugglers. My daughter is right in the middle. Because she is not the super star nor the struggler, she is often the kid that goes unnoticed. Not here. Coach Matt gives her feedback at every practice. Coach Carl challenges her endurance and rewards her when he sees her succeed. These coaches both celebrate every success. From a best time in a race to a beat quality set in a practice, the athletes are noticed. 4) Kind discipline - swimming is a sport that requires discipline and hard work. When you don’t do these things, you not only affect yourself and your training but everyone sharing a lane with you. Coach Matt and Coach Carl value every swimmer and so when they see a swimmer not believing in his or herself or hampering the ability of the swimmers in the same lane, they speak out. Never harshly and never unkindly. They do not call names and they do not mock. They correct. Any parent should want this for their children. Respectful expectations. Coach Matt is excellent at using humor to illustrate bad habits to get a swimmer back on track. Finally I’d like to add success. My daughter has been with the team for almost two months now and in practice has achieved best times in every event but a large amount. Her technique has vastly improved and most importantly she has confidence in herself and her swimming. What more could you ask as a parent?"
"This team is absolutely amazing! Since Coach Carl (head coach) joined our team a little over a year ago, the environment of the team has significantly improved and my best times along with many other swimmers on our team have also improved significantly. When Carl joined June of last year, he introduced me to a meet called NCSA's. He met with me in a one on one meeting (which he has with most of his swimmers at least once during each season-before Covid) to create goals for myself that were high but also very acheiveable. We went over the plan for the season and talked about what I needed to do in practice in order to achieve these goals that I had set for myself. By the end of the season I had multiple NCSA times, and was going to travel to Florida in March this year, but we were unable to do so because of Covid. During quarantine, Carl along with our other FAST coaching staff, recorded and sent out dryland videos, yoga videos, and held zoom meetings with the different groups to check on our mental state and to keep the team connected during these hard times. Once our team was able to get back in the pool after quarantine, many swimmers from other clubs joined our team. This was very hard on the FAST coaching staff because they were mixing three different cultures from these club teams into one. Overall I think that they handled the whole situation very well. Throughout this pandemic, our coaching staff has worked VERY hard to get us as much time in the pool, virtual meets to get times that count towards USA Swimming, while keeping the whole team safe. Our team is one of the only teams in the country to hold meets. This shows how hard our coaching staff works to benefit all of the swimmers no matter the skill level or ages. One of my goals for the future is to swim for a D1 college. Carl has been working with the juniors and seniors recently, and helping them contact college coaches. I am truly amazed with all of the hard work our coaching staff puts in to make this team succeed. This is an amazing team, with an amazing coaching staff, and if you are looking for a swim team, I definetely recommend FAST."
