Reviews
"This review is several months late, mainly because, 1. I don't typically write reviews (especially negatives ones) and 2. I went back and forth between wanting to write one and not. I went to Dr. Kavitha after I brought up to my Psychiatrist that I believe I have ADHD. I made an appointment (which was pretty straightforward and easy) and visited with the doctor a couple weeks later. She was very nice, thorough with what felt like an interview (I mainly provided my background), and, overall, the initial meeting was fine. She had to reschedule the follow up appointment due to an illness, which was fine with me. At the follow up, she had me complete a questionnaire and then we reviewed the information compiled by the assessments done at our first appointment, the background I provided, and the questionnaire I took while I was there for the follow up. She told me that she couldn't diagnose me with ADHD because what I am and have been experiencing could be depression and/or ADHD and that, since she wasn't able to talk to a family member that can clearly show I had it when I was younger, that she couldn't officially diagnose me with ADHD (I am in my 40s - ADHD was a thing hyper kids had when I was younger - not a lazy procrastinator who lacked focus). She provided me with a website for adults with ADHD and told me that trying a stimulant might help, and then sent me on my way. I was a little taken aback because I went to a doctor who specializes in this but couldn't give me a diagnosis (either way - to say I did or did not have it). I deal with depression and have since I was in my mid teens. I have been on medicine for it since I was in my early twenties. It is being taken care of - there is something else going on, and have read that ADHD is masked by depression, especially in women. Regardless, when I got the report she put together that stated that I DID NOT in fact have ADHD, I felt incredibly frustrated, confused, and blindsided. It didn't state what we discussed at our follow up at all and essentially affected any medicinal help I might get from my Psychiatrist. A few months later, I was contacted by her admin for money. I paid it then and told her that I wanted to email the doctor about my frustrations. She told me that this was something I should talk to the doctor about over the phone and said that she would speak with the doctor and get back to me within in the week. It has been 2 months since that call and I am still waiting to hear back from the admin or the doctor (yes, I can call - to me it feels like they just don't care). I am not giving this review to say "don't go to AZ BrainCare; they are terrible" because they aren't. I am doing it so you know to manage your expectations and be prepared for disappointment. I know there is something, aside from depression, that is going on with me and to feel unheard and invalidated is tough. It is also frustrating to be told one thing by a professional and then read something completely different than what was discussed. If you decided to work with AZ BrainCare - I genuinely hope it helps you more than it did me."
