Reviews
"Awesome experience! A great historical piece to explore with two more pieces of history right next to it! The Gillespie Dam and the petroglyphs!"
"Cool photo op The Gillespie Dam Bridge (sometimes referred to as the Gillespie Dam Highway Bridge) is a through truss bridge spanning the Gila River in Maricopa County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. The bridge was constructed to bypass a concrete apron through the river in front of the Gillespie Dam, which was often closed due to flooding. Construction of the bridge started in 1925 and completed in 1927. From its opening until 1956, the bridge was part of U.S. Route 80 (US 80), a transcontinental highway between San Diego, California and Tybee Island, Georgia. The bridge was restored in 2012 by Maricopa County for the Arizona Centennial and now includes an educational interpretive center for visitors. The bridge became part of Historic US 80 in 2018."
"If you love old bridges like I do, then you'll dig the Gillespie Dam Bridge. Construction of the bridge started in 1925 and was completed in 1927. So it's old!!! It's a great spot for dam photos and it's absolutely free. There is a spot where there was something that looks like it had info on the bridge, but it has been vandalized. So if you're looking for something to do then all you'll need is gas money. You will definitely have one good dam time!!!"
"Cool, old bridge over the Agua Fria River. Unfortunately there is no longer any plaques explaining the historical significance of the bridge and road. It’s a short walk to the failed Gillespie Dam which is also worth a visit. Plenty of water fowl for viewing and photographing. There’s also a petroglyph site close but I’ve not visited."
"Hey there! If you're looking for some great photo opportunities, the Historic Gillespie Dam Bridge is definitely worth checking out. Just a quick word of warning though - don't be like me and try to fly your drone inside the metal bridge. The signal gets all wonky and it's pretty much a guaranteed crash. Trust me on this one! lol"
