"Serene but beautiful location of a former fort. It's hard not to imagine the suffering of the prisoners held here (men, women and children). The visitors center is a short hike from the parking lot and the roads coming on are not all paved."
"Close to Chiricahua National Monument. It is about a 9 mile drive on a dirt road and the visitor center is a bit of a hike from the road, There are several things to see between the road and the Fort Site. Fort ruins were much larger than I expected. Good information and story for a seemingly forgotten part of our history."
"Very knowledgeable and friendly staff, had a great chat about dark skies park since we were in Chiricahua for the ‘23 Geminid shower. Parking at the trailhead and making the walk around the loop is a great plan. The historical buildings are ruins, but the overlook path on the trail is beautiful."
"My advise, wear a backpack! That way, one can take snacks, sandwiches,, extra water, and bring back purchased souvenirs from the visitors center. Allow apprx 2 hours getting to the center, there are so many signs to read about the past historic events and types of vegetation along the trail. Also, it helps to have a good hiking stick for walking support."
