"I can honestly say that I almost pulled my daughter out this year. However, they have a new principal that came from a school that my friend's kids attend and she said that things would change. They are trying, I can say that. I have had children in this school for the last 10 years and this has been the best year so far under the new administration. Kids will still be kids....it is how the teachers and administration deal with them that matters. Do not blame the school because kids are mean, but do blame them if they do nothing about it. My daughter is in 3rd grade this year, and all last year she was bullied on the bus. An older girl actually punched her in the face. The principal last year did absolutely nothing and I went straight to the school board with my concerns. This was not the first incident or the last. I was going to pull her out, but I decided not to because of the new administration in the hopes things would change. This year, we have had some issues, but the new administration has been on it. They have had my back and taken care of my daughter....so far. I am going to see how the rest of this year plays out and if things continue going well I will keep my child in Walker Butte. However, if I get no satisfaction from administration regarding the bullying of my daughter I will yank her out and file a formal complaint with the school district. Maybe if everyone who had a complaint made it known to the district...instead of just posting their negative comments here...things would change. Stand up for your kids. You are their biggest advocate. If someone is hurting my kid I would go to the ends of the earth to make it right, and just posting comments here is not going to make anything better. I believe you can even voice your concerns on the FUSD website now. Take action for your kids and maybe you can enact some change for a better school environment for our kids."
"Hi!Let me first start by saying I'm writing this off of my cousins laptop. I don't know if us students are aloud to write reviews, so I apologize if we are not. I've been to this school for almost four years. I first came to Walker Butte in 2013 December First. It's so sad to see all the nice teachers and students leave. I've met so much wonderful leaders here. Sadly, they all left. I'll be honest with you, the lunch is very poor and not the best. I understand the lunch gals and guys have to feed over 500 people per day so they might not do the best, but over the years I've been able to notice the lunch has got more poor. Another poor thing about the school is the bathroom. It stinks, theres writing all over it, carvings and much more. I've heard rumors they're going to replace them next school year, (August 2017 if I remember correctly) so I wold keep heads up if they do. The most enjoyable thing I found from this school is the teachers and staffs. They are so nice and sweet but very strict, I warn you they don't PLAY! One reason why I disliked this school is the students, they are very rude and disrespectful. Each semester I've had to atleast deal with one bully. Whenever I try to explain to someone I'm dealing with a bully they just look at me and say they'll deal with it later (HEADS UP!!! THEY JUST IGNORE IT AND PRETEND IT NEVER HAPPENED!)"
"On one hand every school in every district has its own challenges and difficult situations. On the other hand schools react and help families teach our children to their best ability. FUSD is one of the best districts in the state putting kids first!"
"Very disorganized in all aspects! !! Omg how could the State of Arizona Dept of Education overlook our children, they are the most important people in our lives and they are the future, well to them money and cut backs are the future get a clue if "We" are to put "Our children first" should we not do what we say, I see why China is ahead of the game, they put "their" children first. Americans so rich and powerful, but so clueless money can't buy brains! A good Education is worth more than anything, like "You" say knowledge is power, oh am sorry money is power."
"The K-3 Campus was wonderful. The 4-8 is total opposite! Teachers appear to be "burnt out" and don't care and the new principal......where do I start? He refused to give us reasonable accommodation for 504 for my 10 yo son with type 1 diabetes for 8 weeks into the school year. We had to get his Endocrinologist and the ADA (American Diabetes Association) involved. The ADA were about to help us get an attorney, but the principal said the county attorney was funded by federal tax dollars and their pockets were, "much deeper than the ADA's". He stated in front of my wife and I that low blood sugar was nothing more than, "PMS type of symptoms" and he would just have him eat something to eat and tell him to shut up. He thought he was funny however, we did not. the 504 director and he would continually promise over and over that they would accommodate simple things like access to bathrooms and snacks, but when they wrote out the plan they did not put any of them in there. Like I said this went on for 8 weeks! Teachers are disengaged, appear to not care, and lack vital communication! My son went to tutoring Tue and Wed mornings at 7:15. His teacher forgot to tell us he didn't have tutoring anymore. I dropped him off and watched him walk into the front office. When I got home he called me on his cell phone and said the office staff said there was no tutoring and told him he needed to wait outside until school starts @ 8am. I find it to be common sense that you don't let a 4th grade diabetic alone outside, unsupervised. at least they could of let him call me. I'm just thankful we recently got him the phone. The health office should have been shut down. The office aid (not a CNA) has caused so many things wrong in our sons care and 504 and inappropriate diabetes education but, like the rest of the faculty, they blame our son and refuse to take responsibility. Things ranging from bypassing my sons insulin pump programming, using his supplies for others and vice verse, telling him the snacks he has from home for hypoglycemia are not good and has given him food from her own lunch or snacks, and either they would forget to remind him to check his bg or they would do it 10+ times in 7 hrs! I like to take a moment to do some simple math. If he checks his BG (blood glucose) 10 times a day at say 8 minutes per check; 10 checks x 8 min = 80 minutes. They would send this 60-80 minutes of missed class work home with him every day or on the weekend. They just say he's, "falling behind" and expect him to complete 2-4 hrs of homework a day. they also refuse to accept that it was from him checking his BG. These things are just a drop in the bucket form the horror we have endured. These statements are known to be true to me and my family though all have been denied. In no way do I intend to tarnish anyone's reputation or slander them. I simply think parents who expect to be their child's advocate need to know what happen to us and think and pray before considering this facility."
