"I am 54 years old. Never in a million years did I think I would have to have a hip replaced at my age. I have been active all of my life. However, for the last year and a half I have been having pain, which has progressively been getting worse every week. The pain got so bad, I couldn't even put my sock and shoe on without using an extended shoe horn. I would wake up in the middle of the night in extreme pain... even after taking Meloxicam and Tylenol prior to bedtime. I had another physician in town do an MRI on my hip. It was determined the hip was worn out and needed replacement. I tried a Cortizone shot to stave off surgery. I was worried it would take months to recover and that my whole snowboarding season would be ruined. The pain finally got to be unbearable, so I decided on the surgery. Someone I know, mentioned going to a doctor who does robotic assist surgery. I Googled and found Dr. Hicken. I decided to meet with Dr. Hicken and to get a second opinion. When I met with Dr. Hicken, I just knew after a few minutes that I wanted him to do the surgery! I am 7 weeks post opertation and I honestly am beating myself for not having done the surgery sooner. I have fully recovered in that I do not feel any pain. I am doing all the gym activities I did before the surgery, of course with lighter weight for now. I am even ready to go snowboarding as soon as it snows! Dr. Hicken, Maria, Ryan and the St. George crew are top of the top! The Idaho staff are equally as helpful and wonderful to work with. If you can, ask for John Kezele (anesthetist). This man personally placed my IV and had me feeling calm as can be! I never felt any pain, not even a needle stick! The nerve block is the way to go too! I walked a half a mile the day after surgery with just the use of a cane! Amazing experience!! I will never go anywhere else for orthopedics!"
