"Terrible. This school needs a lot of work and can honestly say I never had school spirit. I tried to get into clubs like LINK and it didn’t work. Teachers really don’t care, grade system changed numerous times because “students are lazy”, so many failing students. Counselors are lacking. People complain about whats wrong and no one listens. Went into the counselors office once and she said something incredibly rude about my mom because she was “bothering her”. My sister is a smart kid but even she was failing and we both had to go to homeschool. Loved it my freshman year (2014) it just got worse from there, though. Don’t expect much from this school."
"I never attended this school but as someone who has many friends who have gone to or are currently enrolled, I must say: do NOT go here. It is terrible. Yes, kind teachers, I hear; I'm sure there's nothing wrong with them, but it is poorly funded, no books, or few books, and simply confusing. I've read and heard several accounts of the school seeming to be like a mock of a high school. I mean, come on, it has fake classes.. Advisory? What? What kind of high school have you heard of with "Advisory" to share news. Maybe if they had better communication with their students, they wouldnt need such a period. Ridiculous. Many students there speak of drugs as the norm. Honors students or not. While drugs are typical for any high school, the speak and distribution amongst this domain is extreme. The school accuses students of certain actions they literally didn't commit amd say a lot of stuff that isn't true. They'll mark your child absent despite their perfect attendance just to destroy your rep. The bullying is beyond terrible and the school does nothing about it. At the very least they could make announcements or call an assembly to inform the students about such issues. No. They are totally oblivious and careless, I say. I find it hard to believe any of the students were happy at Maricopa High School other than the fact that they were local and with kind teachers and their friends. Other than that, this school does not even dare to compete with hardly any other school in this state and if there is worse somewhere, I am incredibly worried. This school only cares about football. You hear football announcements everywhere but nothing else that actually matters. Education? Pfft. Future and college-related exams? Oops! They ran out! Freshmen couldnt even take the PSAT exam in the Fall of 2017 because this school literally "ran out" of tests for everyone! It's more than sad, it's concerning. Sure, it's not like nobody graduates from MHS with a decent GPA and heads off to a good college, but the graduating seniors rate is seriously low. Would not recommend this school."
"This school isn't a very trust-able place. It's not the teachers that bothered me , in fact I liked all of the teachers, it's the feeling I get that this school isn't the real deal. Sometimes I felt as if the school was not Run as a normal high school should be. I felt as if the school was a mimic, as if the administrator were playing school. They had a lot of things that just didn't feel right, such as Advisory, Advisory is a class where students literally just figured out what was going on for the week they had it twice a week as "third hour" and it was only twenty minutes. Another thing is they took way too long to update schedules, and didn't give the classes you were supposed to get half the time. Some people had to wait almost three weeks to get the classes they were supposed to have in the first place. The only thing I liked about that school was the teachers. Every teacher there was kind, and always willing to help students. That is the only reason I give this school a two star."
"Only high school in Maricopa not really many choices unless you choose to send your kids to a different district or pathway charter school. MHS has some quality teachers , that do a really great job and really care about educating the students but they also have some that need to be fired because they are not qualified to train a rat let a lone teach students. Administration is ok alot of new people . With any school take the good with bad and make sure your student works hard and makes smart choices. Kids will be kids and need to be taught at home 1st then school and teachers will be teachers and can only do so much."
"This school acts decently. Teachers mainly being the highlight, but that's personal experience that mostly is uncontrollable. Students, as you would expect, are less than super, but like teachers that's understandable and uncontrollable from an external standpoint. A big negitive is staff, primarily office staff, they are generally helpful and get their job done, but (and this may be any school) they are generally disconnected from students and seem like a entirety different section of what should be an entire school. There also is a, seemingly, unprofessional disconnect from the school and parents, and a reliance on students to do the leg work for staff. An example is staff not directly contacting parents, and Instead having students deliver information, papers, or important news. A huge problem with the school as well is overpopulation, the campus is the only in the area, and services the entire town of Maricopa alone (exept private institutions). And as a result of this, there is a student population of around 3,000, and on class there is one teacher for around an average of 30+ students. I believe that for this school to achieve more, it needs to have office staff worked out, and the district needs to start considering a new highschool. In a town with 7 elementary schools, and 2 middle schools, there is no sensible reason for there only being one high school other than cost and that it works fine egnough for them not to undergo such a large project."
