"I went to see Dr Paul at Banner MD Anderson as a potential new patient. I told Dr Paul (several times) that I took a specific medication as a part of my ongoing treatment and did not need to get this medication from Banner MD Anderson at all. Yet two days after my initial visit and without my permission or approval, Banner MD Anderson submitted this prescription to my healthcare company with a huge out of pocket to me. Because of this I had to spend a lot of time with mt HC provider and pharmacy to unravel it as the patient."
"It makes me so sad to hear folks who have had a negative experience here. Being diagnosed with cancer can be very scary and a new patient needs the utmost care and concern and information and love from your providers. Fortunately, I did receive that type of care here at Banner MD Anderson in Phoenix at 9th & McDowell. I am SO glad that I chose this establishment for my cancer care. The reason I initially chose this center is because of Dr. Zaynep Aydi. She was LITERALLY the calm in my storm when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer as a 41 yo mother of 3 young girls. I was very, very scared. She called me frequently, always kept me up to date with what was happening with my case, gave me a direct line to reach her if I was freaking out, never rushed me, was loving and caring. She was driving my cancer care ship and for her, I will be forever grateful. I love Dr. Paul ~ a very kind, confident doctor. Told me I'd be ok from the beginning in such an easy way that I believed him! And to me, that mattered. Dr. Sangvay was out a lot which didn't seem to impact me. I had a weekly 5 minute check in with the radiation oncologist and the radiation team was kind and it went well. The front desk staff and all of the schedulers were WONDERFUL! They actually feel like friends ~ I saw them so often. So April and Terry, thank you for making my time there more bearable. I'm doing well now and glad I got my care at Banner MD Anderson University."
"I would strongly suggest that you do not receive treatment from MD Anderson. I cannot recall having ever written a review; however, I am so disgusted with how my father was treated here that I wish I would have brought him elsewhere. His cancer was diagnosed in March of 2022. His first oncologist Dr. Kasper was an amazing physician who unfortunately retired six months after seeing my father. His radiation oncologist Dr. Sangave was rude and always in a rush to escape an appointment. She would quite literally be one foot out the door while my father and I were still sitting asking her questions. This is life and death for us and while we know you are busy, please at least humor us with even feigned interest in a patient. After his first round of difficult treatments my father did very well for a few months; however, when the cancer returned he was assigned to Dr. Todd Erickson. Dr. Erickson was very apathetic and every other word out of his mouth was not so much more than a groaned, “yeah.” While everyone initially acted as if they cared immensely about my father, as soon as he was no longer eligible for chemo and radiation, that sentiment quickly evaporated. We were also forced into a biopsy from which point he was never able to eat solid food again. We understood the gravity of his situation; however, there was no change in his cancer and there would be no change in treatment regardless. The only change was his ability to ever try his favorite foods again. One day I asked for a wheelchair three times and never received it! His pain management physician told me he only had months left yet did not provide any warning signs of the inevitable. My father ended up suffering during his last several days on this Earth. My last memory with my father was watching him vomit and aspirate his own blood; an image which will forever haunt my mother, siblings and myself. It was never suggested that this was a likely outcome until he arrived to the (different) hospital intubated and unresponsive after a short ambulance ride and we spoke to the physicians there and later experts at Hospice of the Valley (who we thank for their immense kindness). MD Anderson failed my father and our family. While it felt that the center was eager to help at the onset of his disease, that only faded with time as it felt as if they were giving up on him despite his dedication to treatment. Something that breaks my heart is that we not even once received a call or card from them after my dad passed. Even my veterinarian sent a condolence card after my dog passed away recently. It just makes us feel like a number, nothing more. I will say that the nurses and front desk staff are wonderful. They were always kind, compassionate and helpful. The physicians are a disappointment; perhaps too full of themselves due to the name they are attached to for them to take the time to develop relationships with their patients and deliver quality care. So much more had happened, but it is simply too much to write. Take your loved one someplace else.Focus on bedside manner and quality of care for the person you love over simply pursuing a name that is advertised so heavily that you assume it is the best. Learn from my mistake so you don’t live with regret."
"Medicine itself in Arizona is atrocious. Doctors do not do their job on reading cancer records from the patients and just wing it everytime without any knowledge or plan. Not to mention that whoever does appointments and sends test results for the follow ups also never does their job...appointments are always canceled at the moment of the patients arrival and rescheduled like if cancer could keep waiting for people to have some ethic."
"MD Anderson 9st & MCDowell! Over 2 hour wait for a 5 minute visit. Not very efficient. Phoenix could learn some things from the Sun City office's. Doctor was ok but didn't know my dad's history before appointment. No issues with Sun city but this office is slow & wait time is way too long. Not impressed. Waiting for the Medical assistant 16 minutes so we can go home. After waiting 20 minutes for MA we went to the front desk & checked ourselves out. We were referred there for throat cancer for my dad. The doctor did a scope but didn't look in the correct spot. When I tried to show him pictures of where the cancer was detected which I had to show him on my phone because he did not have the history he looked and quickly said okay there's nothing there. When my dad explained to him that he was on chemo for lung cancer the doctor quickly put his hand out shook his hand said okay and left. Very disappointed after a 40 minute drive. Will get a second opinion."
