"My husband and I were very excited to enrolled our kid here. The school looked so good in paper. Extracurricular activities, music classes, language classes , teachers that communicate to parents in the daily basis, you name it! However, that is all NOT true …my kid has had a substitute teacher since the beginning of the school year; no extracurricular activities are currently available for her due to her grade level. Very poor communication w the teacher . As for music classes, there has been NONE! Which is very very disappointing. Language classes …well it’s a joke. The language teacher gave the class a learning packet and said to turn it in , in 3 weeks….which is when the language teacher will come back. So no language teacher and now I’m stuck at home trying to teach my kid Russian. My husband and I have found ourselves pretty much teaching my kid everything. The substitute teacher only gives them vocabulary words and a math packet due at the end of the week. When my kid does the math packet with us she has no idea how to do any of it because she wasn’t thought any of it in class. I hope this school gets their stuff together or we’ll be taking our kid out of this school and telling everyone to not enroll their kids here unless they want to become their kids teacher for the whole evening."
"I love my substitute experience at AMS South Mountain Campus. I specially give good credit to Brianna --- to pass out daily assignments to sub teachers in the early morning. She is a such nice staff and always giving supports to substitute teachers. Thank you, Brianna for your good work!"
"I work here as a sub sometimes. This school has a lot of pros. I’ve worked at a lot of other schools in my nearby 14 years as an educator. First of all their drop off and pick up are very well organized. Kids are not released chaotically like other schools. This is important for safety. At my daughters new school they couldn’t find her for 10 min the first day. Second, they have chrome books for every student. They use them to take individual lessons in math and ela that are tailored to each child. Third, their facilities are all new. I could go on about friendly staff, caring teachers, abundant sports programs, after school programs/activities, music programs, healthy (and tasty) lunch options…."
"Today is my Daughter's 5th Birthday. I had communicated with her Kinder teacher weeks ago about bringing surprises for her. I brought candy's bags, store bought cupcakes, and a hello kitty balloon. The front office lady said I can help you here. I brought the box to the counter. I asked if I could surprise my daughter. She said parents can't go back there. I asked why weren't parents allowed in the back. She stated again parents just aren't allowed in the back. I am confused. (The only school that does this that I have been too). She then looked at the cupcakes and said you can't have cupcakes. I told her the teacher and I already discussed and she said it was okay to bring cupcakes. The lady spoke and said it has to be individually wrapped. At this point I am a little upset. She says I can take it back thier. But we don't allow balloons. Why would any parent want a total stranger to bring anything to their child. This school stated that the teachers are our first line of contact. The teachers have been great. It's the administration that is the problem. They are rude, and their demeanor is all over the place. This lady had an attitude. The communication with this school has been a nightmare. I have been contemplating pulling my three kids. But they love their teachers. Caught between a rock and a hard place."
"This school has went down since the last principal left. First of all It shouldn’t take so long to drop your kid off and pick them up. They don’t answer their phone ! I walked in and told the lady I’ve been on hold for nearly 2 hours and all she did was pick the phone up and hang it up. I dropped my kid off and I started receiving calls that he was absent (he’s 6 ). I feel like these new staff members will lose your kid and forget calling them in case of an emergency because they never pick up. This school is in shambles and it’s a shame because it was great about 2 years ago."
