"We booked with Wards guiding service for Senora Mexico on a recommendation from an associate who guides for another outfitter. He told us that we would be hunting the same deer and Wards was a better value and we had a good chance at harvesting an 180” mule deer. I get hunting is hunting and maybe 2024 was a bad year or a down year, but we didn’t see a 160” deer. When I reached out to Steven I was told that was his best spot and he had a better spot he would put us there. When we got to the airport we ran into many guides and clients. Many had nice 180” bucks. We were the minority and was told don’t go with wards there’s not any bucks on there leases and other clients returned disappointed as well. I was also told larger bucks are further north. When asked by another client does Steven bait himself or does the landowner. We replied the landowner, the other client who said this is not good as one of the stations we had seen a nice 2x4 at was out of food. We had a good time, but I wish I could have had more references from this guide service. Other guide services offer a kill fee and the owner will hunt with you helping your sucesss. We are in really good shape and phycical conditions aren’t a problem we have the best optical equipment, but the deer were not there. This isn’t wards problem but I believe if you pay that much money all odds should be put in the hunters favor, I feel they were not adequate with bait stations being empty, and half the ranch 16k acres not being covered and other land owners shooting nice bucks or hunting the week before arriving. The doe deer would run before we even got to the bait stations often taking the bucks with them. This shows this property was hunted very hard, but we feel we saw every buck on the lease and nothing bigger than a 26” spindling horn 3 point. I would recommend choose another guide service for mule deer as if your gonna pay 13k to go hunt everything should be in your favor out hunting and this guide service I feel didn’t provide this. After speaking with clients going and clients coming many who have done this several times choose someone who’s taken large deer from the guide service leases."
