"Another poorly run NWR in AZ. This one really rubs your nose in it by making you walk in to see an overgrown mess. I have now been trained to not visit NWR's in AZ. The approach taken in this state will insure they have no advocates for their protection. If your a birder in the area save yourself the effort and head to Slaughter Ranch. Evidently independently run non-profits can do a much better job than the feds. When I was visiting there they mentioned that the last refuge biologist transferred out of the area. I would imagine this is a miserable place to try to do good work and engage the public with the importance of these critical areas for wildlife. In some ways I'm glad I waisted the time walking in as I got to see how bad it is. Whoever manages these two refuges (Buenos Aires) sucks at their job. Dead CACW in sign in box (aka bird trap) is the icing on the cake!"
