Reviews of Dr. Catherine M. Westerband, MD
"Dr. Westerband is not my normal OBGYN from Genesis OBGYN, but she was the first available for getting seen. She was such a breath of fresh air (no offense to my usual OB). She is warm, approachable. She's the first OB who hasn't looked at me like I had 5 heads when I expressed I don't want to go on any type of birth control. If you're looking for an OB who listens and validates your symptoms and your wishes for your feminine care."
"This is my first pregnancy and during my first visit with her she rushed through everything and did not make me feel comfortable at all. I tried to address some pain concerns with her and she brushed me off very rudely. I called and asked for a different OB immediately after the appointment and was switched over to Dr Toodi. She is much more personable and kind. Never met such a cold doctor like Westerband."
"I would give 0 stars if I could. I went in for an ultrasound after experiencing abdominal pain two days prior that lead me to the emergency room. I was unable to stand up straight, nor speak, due to the excruciating pain that was brought on very suddenly. The pain subsided after 2.5 hours. I went in to see if it was a burst cyst, so I could rule that out. Dr. Westerband was extremely dismissive and condescending. She was 40 minutes late to my appointment, while I sat there half-naked on the table, then rushed through the whole thing in less than five minutes. She did not make me feel safe before starting my exam, she flipped my paper skirt up before I even knew what was happening, didn't ask me to lay back before shoving the device inside me, then discouraged any means of getting a diagnosis that could be determined outside of a two-second vaginal exam. The pain wasn't in my vagina or uterus, I did not expect her to find anything there during an exam. She said that "sometimes scary things happen to us in life" but I didn't die so "obviously the pain wasn't life-threatening". She said that MY GENERATION is "obsessed with finding answers" to things and she doesn't have them, nor can she get them for me. I requested an ultrasound to see if my abdominal pain could be determined but she discouraged it. I asked if she recommended that I follow up with a primary care doctor for an x-ray; she discouraged it. She said that if a cyst burst inside me, then that's just life and I should learn to move on from it because "it probably won't happen again for another 10 years". I started crying and then she said "to appease my anxiety, we can schedule an ultrasound" but it probably won't find anything anyway. I thought the purpose of medicine was to DIAGNOSE and to CARE for people. I have a clean medical history outside of a history of colon cancer, so this was very scary for me to experience. She said it was probably a cramp. Completely unprofessional, dismissive, condescending, and harmful behavior. I also had a friend switch from this Genesis location halfway through her pregnancy due to her terrible experience there."
"I would never go back to her I found out I was pregnant for the first time, and decided to go with her. Big mistake I went to see her back in March and told her I had gone to er week before due to bleeding a bit she said is ok. Then had ultrasound on 18th of april and by the 19th I had a miscarriage I would not recommend Kara either she said bleeding was normal and I told her it feels like a period, they said im sorry"
"If I could give zero stars I would. I was given a referral for a different doctor in her office, but since she didn’t have an opening for awhile, I saw this “doctor” instead. I have been in pain for months and was hoping to get some answers. She read through her MA’s notes before walking in and didn’t ask me ANY questions. She said “take ibuprofen for pain” and threw her hands up. Such a disgusting bedside manner, made me feel like I was bothering her by being there. She sat sideways and didn’t even look at me. So bizarre. I took time off of work to be treated like garbage, and also left feeling worse than I did when I walked in."
