Mayo Clinic Neurology and Neurosurgery

"I have been a Mayo Clinic patient for 16 years, both Scottsdale and Rochester. I have never met a Mayo Clinic doctor I didn’t like but Scottsdale endocrinology has to be the worst specialist I’ve ever seen. I walked in my appointment only to be met with, “I see you have an endocrinologist at home. Why are you here?” This was asked in a very condescending, rude manner as if I was wasting her time. I have had complex endocrine issues since 15, 5 MRIs for a possible brain tumor and no one could figure out my complicated lab work. This physician refused to help me and just sat there waiting for me to ask a question so she could answer and end the appointment. I saw a new endo at home and she figured out my bloodwork but I’m dissatisfied that this Mayo Clinic physician refused to even look at my labs! When I called back to ask questions regarding pregnancy I was, once again, asked, “Why are you calling? You have an endocrinologist at home.” Very sad! Second opinions are valuable but not in this case."

"They don't care about seriously ill people. My quadriplegic, bedbound son needs neurosurgery for Cervical mylopathy, syrnix, degenerated disks and associated intractable central pain, but none of the neurosurgeons will see him because he only has Original Medicare and UHC ALTCS medicaid. My son is unable to leave bed for more than 3 years and is dying a slow, painful death with no hope in sight. THANKS MAYO for NOTHING."

"I'm seeing many comments on here asking why they can't get appointments, it is not your Drs office. You must 1st see a primary Dr, ask for a referral to see a specialist. 2nd you must then see a specialist & get some kind of workup/checked out to see what is going on. Then after the local specialist Dr has run out of resources or ideas they MIGHT BE ABLE IF THEY ARE LUCKY to see if they can find another specialist to look at your case at Mayo Clinic. 3rd, and let me make this part clear because some how this part evades people, THEY ONLY EXCEPT HANDPICKED CASE'S! That means you can't just walk in. You can NOT demand to be seen & most importantly they are running of of mostly donations. How do I know you ask, I went to the sister clinic in Minnesota & hope to be able to go to this one at some point. Some people on here need to understand that they are doing the best they can with what they have as they are a Clinic. Please remember to show compassion to those that work hard to help others"

"Resting on the laurels of their reputation. Perhaps their providers are good researchers, but they are terrible patient doctors. Both disinterested in spending time to subs out the nature of complex problems and terrible with their bedside manner as well. Given the time it takes to get an appt herder save yourself some time and heartache and start somewhere else."

"Tried to get an appointment with the Neurology department. Appointment desk took all of my information for Medicare and my Aetna supplemental. On the phone for 15 minutes giving all of my info, then was told they are not taking new patients. Really! Thought Mayo clinic was the best? Not!"
