Reviews of Phoenix Children's - Endocrinology & Diabetes
"This review is based on my interaction with office staff. My interactions with the actual physician were always pleasant. However, if you choose to utilize this office, be advised that you will not be able to get a hold of the office staff, and neither will the specialty pharmacy when they are trying to fill your child’s prescription. Then this office staff will blame the specialty pharmacy instead of taking responsibility for the fact that they never write prescriptions correctly and never return phone calls to the specialty pharmacy in a timely manner. I transferred my child’s care to this practice towards the end of the pandemic, when prescription medicine shortages were already happening. Under my child’s previous endocrinologist, even with the medicine shortages, my child always had sufficient medication because their office staff was on top of communicating with the specialty pharmacy and making adjustments to the prescription in order to take advantage of the different dosages available for my child’s medicine. Stupid me thought it would be a good idea to consolidate medical care under the PCH umbrella so we transferred care to this office. After 1 year, we pulled our child from this practice due to this office staff’s inability to communicate effectively with the specialty pharmacy that handled my child’s prescription. We had multiple months where we could not get refills of needed medication and could not get ahold of a live person at this office when adjustments in prescriptions were needed immediately according to the specialty pharmacy. I am not underestimating when I say it would take between 8 and 12 hours each month of phone calls, trying to get my child’s prescription filled, due to this office’s incompetence. Luckily, I was able to transfer my child back to our old endocrinologist. To give you an idea on the different level of care: the specialty pharmacy has been trying to reach the PCH office for a new prescription for over a month so they can ship the medication. I have multiple emails from the pharmacy stating that they were still waiting on the office for the script. I had given up communicating with them and my child went a month without needed medication. Within 24 hours of our appt with my child’s previous endocrinologist, the specialty pharmacy reached out to arrange shipment of the needed medication, and the office staff from that office texted to confirm I was able to get the needed medication. Run from PCH endocrinology. Update: true to form, the phone number PCH asked me to call to discuss the lapses in care my child experienced is just a place to leave messages, where I can expect a call back in 48 hours. At least you’re consistent in making it impossible to get ahold of you across departments."
"One of the worst facilities to have to contact regarding refills. No matter how many times the pharmacy sends over the requests. The front office literally sits on it forever and then they never return phone calls. The prescriptions are never written correctly in order to make sure your child has enough meds to get through the month. It has been a headache every since my daughter was assigned here. We can't wait to relocate and find a more responsive provider with better adequate office staff."
"The PCH endo team is nothing short of wonderful. So many talented and caring doctors and educators. They took care of my T1D son almost like he was one of their own. We're moving away from PHX but plan to stay connected to PCH from afar."
"Not only is my child’s health not important to any Dr or staff here, but Dr Newborn said she would keep an eye on my sons thyroid but has not once tested his thyroid. I’ve tried calling several times to get an answer as to why and then been told the dr would call. I have not gotten a call. We’ve been going here for almost 3 years been told to be seen every 3 months to monitor A1C and thyroid and we can’t even get an appointment for 7 months out! If you have any kid of health concerns for your child I highly recommend finding another place."
"Dr. Barger is fantastic, I sure hope one day she opens her own clinic and takes our insurance because we’ll be there in about half a second. My daughter has been a patient with Phoenix Children’s for the past 3 years and they are a NIGHTMARE. Don’t bother calling the prescription line, they won’t fill it or respond. Need a pre-authorization? Prepare for the biggest nightmare of your life as you leave multiple messages for multiple layers of people to have no responses. Save your requests for Dr Barger who will promptly solve your problem during your in office visit. Hopefully your kids life doesn’t depend on Phoenix Children’s response time, because if it does then you might as well just go to the ER."
