"My daughter was there last year in Sept 2023. If your kid needs help. Do not send them their. She got worse in there. They don't watch the kids, lots of fights and bullying. Letting kids watch scary and bad movies when there getting help they shouldn't be watching that stuff. Kids hurting themselves and if they were watching the kids that wouldn't be happening. I give them zero stars. Az needs better places for teens."
"It has been almost 3 months since I had my child admitted and so far oasis has been amazing. I think many of the negative reviews are a result of people not being prepared for the purpose of this facility. This facility is designed for high level inpatient and serious mental health concerns. My child has had over a dozen inpatient stays at other facilities over the last 5 years and also spent almost a year in a lower level out of home setting as well. All of these interventions failed, so a facility like oasis is the next step. It is designed as a therapeutic group setting, but has the ability to lock down similar to a prison. For my child, this is the setting we need to safely rehabilitate and change behavior patterns. This may sound harsh, but in cases like mine this is the only way to keep everyone safe. Many of the patients are in a similar situation as my child as well. I share this for the parents who may be experiencing mental health concerns for the first time. I would advise any first timers to speak to a professional first and determine the best placement for your child. Understanding that when you choose a facility like oasis, plan for a longer stay. In my situatuon, we are planning for a minimum of 8 months for treatment, but are prepared for an 18 month stay. For me, oasis is the best choice. The staff are very communicative and listen very well to my input for treatment. They also have an amazing psychiatrist and therapist as well. I would recommend this facility to anyone who is in a similar situation as mine. I would discourage using this facility as a first time starting point for mental health treatment. They have the ability to help everyone and can do so with support of the family. Like I said before, I think many of the negative reviews are due to a misunderstanding of what type of patients this facility is designed for."
"I agree with all of these reviews. I went here twice in 2021, once in January and again in August. The first time I went in, I was 12 and I had to be in Cholla which is the boys unit. Because I guess there weren't enough beds in the girl's unit. I almost got jumped because I glanced at another patient in apparently the wrong way. There was this girl who was bragging about how she's lesbian and how she almost did not so appropriate things with another patient. And then I got moved to Saguaro, and there were these two patients who kept making out when they got the chance. The second time I went in, this girl had a favorite tech that apparently did one thing she didn't like, and I never liked him in the first place either. He put me in the smaller day room in Ocotillo and it was late at night, and at that point I got triggered by those things and had an anxiety attack. So the girl took me to the end of the hallway right underneath the speaker/camera and went into detail about a plan she had. Basically she was going to call him over, attack him, I was going to grab the keys, and we were going to escape. I told her no and tried to talk her out of it, but she told me she WANTED to go to juvie. I told her that there was no way I was going to do it because I was leaving the next day anyways. So then she called the tech over and started kicking and punching him and I got scared and backed up. Later on we were in the hallway again and this other patient came out of the main day room, started kicking and punching the other girl, grabbed her hair and dragged her at least half way down the hallway while she was screaming at the top of her lungs. I started having a panic attack and I was still panicking after a while. I went back into the main day room and pretty much all of the other patients were laughing about it and mimicking her screaming and calling her a cry baby and stuff. So I got triggered and walked out and I guess that the tech that was watching us said something like, "If she keeps acting like that, then she's not going home tomorrow." That's really not your choice. And I was doing something healthy rather than making a scene. There was also this other patient going around and pinning other people to the wall and trying to kiss them. It's not a good place at all. If you are thinking of going there or sending someone there, please please please think about somewhere else. The last one that I went to was Aurora and that was over 2 years ago and that one helped me the most. That's my personal experience, but I do recommend Aurora. But please, don't go here."
"Horrible experience..we placed my son here in the BHIF and there was little to no communication about his medical issues, med changes/updates, and in the intake paperwork they state ” Our residents will meet with a psychiatric provider weekly, who will provide you updates via email”. Not once did I receive any update. It’s impossible to get ahold of ANYONE via phone as it just rings and rings, day after day. They only allow your child to call out 2x per week. My son stated they made him eat alone for 24 hours and only cold food during that time (sandwiches) because another child gave him a sausage in the lunchroom…but they never documented this in his record. No cameras throughout the facility unlike other facilities for children which makes it highly unsafe. They refused to transport him to his normal doctor for his yearly well check and vaccination, and I was told they do not accommodate regular, preventative medical treatment for the kids such as dental cleanings, eye appointments, etc…and some kids have been there for over a year!! Do not send your child here!!"
"Zero stars. This is supposed to be a MENTAL HEALTH facility. NOT A JAIL!!! Please please please read the reviews. My son went in here in the worst shape of his life because he NEEDED HELP. He came out worse, 100X worse plus extra trauma. These kids go in here suicidal, and you treat them like criminals. Is it a crime to want to die? They want to die so they have to physically fight every minute they come through your doors to stay safe. Makes sense right? They are forced to fight, they try to hide to stay safe. How can any of you justify what your facility is putting CHILDREN that have no where else to go, through. Praying this place gets shut down. I'll bet they can't name one child they have helped. Disgusting! They will threaten you to call child services if you pull your kid A.M.A but trust me when I tell you PULL THEM, no one at DHS will bother you one bit- I called myself. And DHS said they are aware of this facility and its treatment, they recommended Avery House, and took an official grievance. PULL YOUR KIDS IMMEDIATELY."
