Reviews of Talas Harbor Behavioral Health Hospital
"Talas Buckeye has the nicest staff, excellent process groups, private in-room bathrooms, and real (not decaf) coffee!! There are 6 smoke breaks per day, and occasionally they’ll allow extra ones. Everyone’s having a bad day when they arrive at a place like this, but the staff are generally very helpful and friendly. When I arrived I was having an indescribably bad day. I was greeted by the smiling head nurse, Vera, who softly welcomed me and asked if I was hungry. I ate the most delicious meal while they did the intake interview. The food is pretty delicious, and there were a few times I wanted to have, like, dinner for breakfast, or last night’s broccoli and seasoned chicken for lunch, and they always said yes. You get real coffee with breakfast!! (Many programs only serve decaf.) Smoke breaks follow every meal or snack time. Tim, Reynolds, Matthew, and Dan lead very insightful process groups. I read my group notes over and over. Dan, the social worker, works tirelessly and under much duress to make sure every patient’s aftercare plan is perfect. I had been trying unsuccessfully to get into a specific program for 8 months and during my weeklong stay, Dan managed to get me in! Tim is an excellent process group leader and came in *on his day off* and led a very powerful process group. Then he hosted social activities for us, and ran to the store to get us coffee when we ran out - he didn’t have to do any of that! We were so grateful. Thanks Tim!! The nurses Lorna, Porschae, Karen, Vera, and Desirae are all approachable and will take the time to help you. I felt a panic attack coming on and Desirae dropped what she was doing to help me calm down without medication. Thanks Desirae!! When a resident came in needing polygrip for her dentures, one of the nurses went to the store and bought her some out of her own pocket - I wish I could remember which nurse it was to give her credit. What a saint. Slash, Tyesha, Tiana, Terrence, Kimberly, and Mona are the techs that keep order in the court. They’re all super cool. No bad apples in this crew. If you need inpatient psychiatric treatment and have a choice of facilities (and you’re not, like, violent or something), Talas Harbor Buckeye in Phoenix is one of the nicer options. I should mention some “meh” things about the place too— -communal shower room with dividers for plenty of privacy but you can definitely shower by yourself (like, not with other residents) if you’re uncomfortable (Talas Bullhead City has showers in each individual room). Be advised that a tech or nurse will be sitting in there with you though. Shaving is allowed & razors are provided. -only one cup of coffee per day except on very special occasions (whereas Talas Bullhead provides lots of decaf coffee from 6am-2pm with real coffee only available on special occasions). -very few books in the library, and it’s locked with few key holders. C’mon, Talas Buckeye. Go get some books. -bring your own hair conditioner if you need it. Talas provides all-purpose shampoo/body wash, lotion, shaving cream, toothbrush+paste, and antiperspirant. If you can’t bring conditioner but need it, try rinsing your hair with their purified drinking water after shampooing. It at least rinses the Phoenix municipal water out of your hair."
"Well, I was too quick to send a message on here.. Destiny was amazing and another young girl, but the rest left lots to be desired. A couple that works at night DO NOT follow what they say.. Cigarette breaks are when they say you can and NOT by the schedule. They laugh when they tell you there's not going to be one at all. They fed us snacks, well, I guess.. It was crackers for days. When the young girl would cone in, she found good snacks for us, and we liked her. If the lady named Destiny is there, she treats you with respect and caring. I've never been treated so nice before in one of these places. I wouldn't recommend going here now at all because the rest of the staff treats you bad."
"BIGGEST shout out to Monique and Tim! They made my recovery possible! They set the guidelines in place that I so desperately craved to learn. They both were so kind and understanding but stern and serious. They reached out individually but made (me) feel whole again in a group setting. If I were to go back again, I could only hope that they'd be there. Thank you Talas!!! Shoutout to Tim for transportation, and the rest of the crew for their part in containing my crazy to a level that which I've built upon."
"I can’t believe the help they provide, the staff makes you feel very welcomed. Monique helped so much with her Meditation sessions and Positive Attitude , and Rachel Candice Drake and Desiree and December went above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and at home. The night staff was also kind and understanding they are the first people you see and they know just what to say . I’m Glad I chose Talas for my Treatment."
"Monique and Tim are absolutely awesome! Very encouraging, informative, and motivational. Karen and Vonda (?) Are an awesome team. Rachel does every thing she can to take exemplary care of everyone. All of the floor staff do everything in their power to make sure all the patients neeeds are met, and keep everyone as content & comfortable as possible."
