"We had our first baby at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus this last fall. I was really concerned because the reviews online are hit/miss. I did take the pre-birth/preparation classes which was very informative and gives a tour of L&D unit. I went into labor in the evening about 9pm. I recall the 5/1/1 rule. The contractions come every 5 minutes, lasting 1 minute each, for at least 1 hour or you’ll probably be sent home. Decided to go in about 2 a.m. The triage nurse informed me she couldn’t complete the cervical exam because I was in too much distress and couldn’t take more than a couple of minutes. I am really shocked the medical field hasn’t found a new way to screen this without being so invasive. Only because my contractions were so apparent and blood pressure was high was I admitted. I had terrible back pain on top of contractions and it really is YOUR DUTY TO ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF. I was given a birth ball for pain relief and tried walking around but I was in too much pain and could hardly move. I asked for an epidural but I was informed a cervical exam would have to be completed again. Again tried to no avail. After about 10 hours and multiple requests I was informed it would be given but it would really slow down labor and even delay it up to a day. I took my chances due to the back pain they left me unable to really function. Thank goodness I did, after a seamless epidural (wish I recalled gentleman name) another cervical exam was done and was already 4-5cm dilated. I progressed fairly quickly in the hours that followed (after needing my water to be broken - another dr performed good experience) and was at 8cm dilated. Unfortunately I stayed there for hours, while I was contracting there was too much pressure on the baby and their heart rate would drop. They moved me around in so many positions (grateful to still have some function to move around in bed with birth/peanut ball). Tried many different attempts and I am so grateful for the L&D nurses with me and the head nurse who was also very supportive. After hours in labor the decision was given to me to continue with precautions or proceed with an emergency c-section. It wasn’t my birth plan but all we cared about was healthy baby and mother. Dr Erickson was my OB at the time of birth and checked in on me but Dr Firouzi was the OB on call. Dr Firouzi and operating staff did an amazing job with their bedside manner and my c-section (terribly sad Dr Firouzi moved out of state right after my delivery). My 1st night was a wonderful experience and felt very supported. However after baby was born it did decline. It really depends on who is your nurse and their care. Some were kind and attentive while others were cold and short. I will say the staff is highly over worked with the number of deliveries that are going on. I understand they have to make their rounds but I had to ask for things repeatedly. I only stayed 2 nights, took a discharge class and got to meet with a lactation consultant. Another thank you for the additional consult in room that really helped. By day 3 I was given info and then sent on our way (my choice could have stayed additional day covered by insurance). Overall it was a good experience but in so many healthcare experiences you begin to feel rushed although my nurses told me not to… Do everything to make yourself comfortable (we brought music and white xmas lights as our night light). PLEASE ask as many questions as you want!! The hospital will provide all postpartum needs but I also brought my own. Good luck to all the future/current parents out there!"
"Laughed at and denied care. We brought our daughter to Arrowhead Hospital for care. There was not any care received. Vitals were not taken. The doctor laughed in my wife’s face and told her nothing was wrong without performing any tests or even taking any vitals. I received something stating that my daughter was assessed, however if vitals were not taken what was assessed? Is it not normal procedure to take vitals? Again, my daughter had/has a tumor. This tumor was initially 57.5mm. The tumor had my daughter so that her heart rate was dangerously low. When we went to Phoenix Children's Hospital, they immediately sent us to ICU for 24-hour watch as we waited for surgery which was performed next day. My wife was afraid to take her into the hospital again after being laughed at by your doctor, but we found out that if we waited any longer, she very possibly could have died because the tumor was blocking blood flow and causing all sorts of issues. You will not receive payment for services that you did not provide. Again, since the moment she brought my daughter in there she was laughed at and refused care. We continuously wonder if we should have done more sooner, but didn’t because of your doctors unprofessional, malicious, negligent behavior."
"This Place is Great I had my baby here 4 Months ago. I had a C-section and the Doctors and staff did a great job! Thank you Dr. Erickson ! He Did such a great cut that I get compliments from other doctors on how clean the cute is! And left a tiny scar can’t even tell I had a C-section!"
"Overally three days in the cardiac telemetry unit was excellent. I almost felt like I was in a hotel. They were attentive and helpful when I needed things such as bedding, towels, anything I needed they were absolutely on top of it. There was a standout among them, Nichole H. Is is a phenomenal nurse. She's very friendly, helpful, sweet and she knows her job - she's way beyond competent - she's a star! She actually wants to be helpful, kind and caring. She's what every nurse should be. I've been in way too many hospitals by myself and with numerous family members, I know what good care looks like and the care here is great. The staff at this facility was outstanding. The missing star is because of the housekeeping staff. They need to do better, but I also understand that good workers are very hard to find these days."
"Checked into the ER morning of 12/15/2023. Completely neglected as a patient with the excuse of them being very busy. Get assigned a room right next to the reception/triage area. The room was a disaster. Politely asked the receptionist if they could clean up the room a bit, got ignored. Not to mention a previous patients unopened meds sitting on the counter. Politely asked the triage nurse for direction on turning the lights off, ignored. Befuddled on how they are so overwhelmed and busy yet each time I checked out the screen there was on average 3-4 of them huddled around gossiping about other employees. One that stuck out was overhearing the nurses, doctors, receptionists and whoever else bad mouth another employee named “Brittney”. Whoever was on shift between 2-7 AM on 12/15/2023 in the ER triage/reception area, shame on you for your presentation."
