Reviews of Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center
"The wait times are ridiculous. I had to do labs a few days apart. I waited 4 hours the first day and 4 hours the second day. Completely unacceptable. It's not even any where to sit. The front desk receptionist told me one hour at the most for the second day. If he would've said four I would've left"
"For the last three years, I have been having ongoing issues regarding my menstrual cycles. However, I have been actively prevented from seeking help from the Nellis Women's Health office regarding these issues. The Women's Health office regularly changes its policies from only seeing active duty to not seeing anyone to seeing dependents only in certain circumstances. There is no consistency. Kim at the Women's Health front desk will not even allow me to make an appointment to speak with a gynecologist about my cycle. When I made an appointment for a PAP, the doctor who did my exam told me she is not allowed to discuss anything other than the PAP, so I could not tell her about my concerns regarding my cycle. FMR will not write a referral and wants to treat my cycle concerns in the FMR office, which is unacceptable as they are not specialists. I have requested an off- base referral from FMR twice and been denied both times. Due to these issues specifically, my husband opted to purchase supplemental insurance through his employer so that I could see a gynecologist off base without a referral. I find it to be a disgrace and a disservice to your veterans that a retiree must pay out of pocket for separate insurance, not because care isn't available, but simply because the medical facility with the means to provide gynecological services willfully refuses to provide said services. The fact that the doctor who did my PAP is not permitted to speak freely with her patients is appalling and goes against every medical principal that I am aware of. I am now being seen off base for my illness due to the reckless denial of services by the Mike O'Callaghan Medical Center. Veterans and their families deserve better Women's Health care than what Nellis AFB is providing to us."
"The only good thing about the family medical clinic is Dr Miller who I recently met. I have been a critical care nurse for 26 yrs and every time I need to address my health or needs I am met with resistance, no return calls or they leave a message with my husband and never me. I have given them my phone number for the last 7 yrs and they have never once returned a call to me. The other physicians that I have met at the clinic are condescending, rude and arrogant. I have work with world class surgeons who havent treated me in such a manner. This facility is a disgrace."
"In all of my years of living in Las Vegas I have never experienced such blatant bias and racial discrimination at any hospital in the valley like this one. We weren’t aware that we were being transferred by ambulance to Nellis Hospital on base to get emergency surgery we couldn’t get anywhere else. The ER team was amazing and treated us like human beings that they genuinely cared for but this became an entirely different world once we were moved upstairs. Not expecting to randomly be transferred on base for an invasive surgery I didn’t think to clean out my bag and upon inspection found an empty wax pen and battery as well as a mini bottle of chardonnay as we were not expecting to go to the ER. Obviously these items are not allowed on the property which we totally understand so we immediately give them the items to be disposed of so I can continue the treatment of my sepsis and have my mouth surgery. They also do bag checks where they write down every single belonging you have when you enter and leave (because of employees stealing in the past) as well as documenting every mark/open wound/tattoo on your naked body. So these people are well aware of any and everything you have on your person or in your possession.. An hour after we call a Caucasian male nurse to inquire about dietary restrictions and medicine. Knowing that we have no contraband because he himself took it away 1 hour prior and while fully knowing two nurses searched and documented our things extensively prior he then proceeds to say to my husband & I “You guys have been going to the bathroom a lot and when people do that they’re doing drugs so in this case what are you hiding in there & why are you going to the bathroom so much.” My husband went a total of three times in an hour and a half because he had just eaten Taco Bell and is severely lactose intolerant with Ibs and nervous about his wife getting invasive surgery & I am in such excruciating pain I haven’t even been able to walk to the bathroom because I couldn’t move due to the pain of having sepsis so upon hearing this allegation and after showing the Taco Bell bag and proving we got rid of everything as soon as we found out we couldn’t have it we were met with the rudest exchange of accusatory language I’ve seen come out of a health care providers mouth. I break into tears because I’m utterly shocked at how this person who removed the wax pen themselves and knows we had been searched prior double down on this outrageous story that had 0 evidence. I had a horrible case of sepsis and the last thing I want is to not get surgery and die because of a biased employees personal vendetta against a stranger he knows nothing about just because of how they looked. When I mentioned this while crying the employee brushed it off on me being sick not the fact that he just falsely accused us of something that can easily be resolved by security searching without being discriminatory and allowing them to do their job if there was that much concern. We were expecting to receive a health care provider from a hospital that promotes equality & kindness & treating all patients with the same respect regardless of what they look like or what legal cannabis products they use (on off base properties as a civilian) After this exchange I was left feeling targeted, de-humanized, and that quality health care for all patients regardless of what they look like is not a priority for the Nellis Hospital at this time & I’m deeply disturbed by what I experienced for absolutely no reason and the targeted embarrassment that was directed towards my husband solely because of his skin & how many times he went to the bathroom to poop in those two hours. The panic attack it caused me to have because he decided to harass us with 0 evidence while we are in a traumatic situation already instead of being a quality unbiased health care provider goes to show the social climate of this hospital. People of color beware and stay clear of this place if you want to be treated like a normal human being and receive quality health care."
"They stole from me and my family this springtime in MSU, and their staff will not empty the trash unless you tell them to, no matter how stinky the rotting food gets. They're lazy, disorganized, and hope the thief or thieves already got fired because of all the stole though they have a job to care for patients."
