"Over two years I worked with Jim McOwen for my renters and auto insurance needs, and I feel it's important to share my experiences with others considering his services. While Jim did fulfill the basic requirement of securing the insurance I needed, the journey to get there was fraught with challenges. Firstly, communication was a significant issue. Despite multiple attempts to reach out via email, text, and calls, my inquiries and concerns often went unanswered. This lack of responsiveness led to several unresolved issues, including a persistent misspelling of the name on the policy. Although these might seem like minor details, they are crucial for ensuring that insurance claims are processed smoothly. Jim's response to these issues was disappointing. The lack of accountability, often attributing these oversights to his assistant or claiming to have tried reaching out to me without any evidence, did little to instill confidence in his services. It's essential for an insurance agent to provide clear and reliable communication, especially when addressing client concerns. Regarding the auto insurance policy he recommended, it was unfortunately not very helpful when I needed it most. During an accident, I found myself without the necessary support and assistance in dealing with other insurance parties, which added to the stress of the situation. Jim often emphasized the mantra of "Saving you time and money," but in my experience, this was not the case. The time and effort involved in rectifying issues and seeking responses were considerable. In conclusion, while Jim did provide the basic services of securing renters and auto insurance for me, the overall experience was less than satisfactory. The process was stressful and time-consuming, which detracted from the value of the services rendered. It's crucial for an insurance agent to offer not just the product but also reliable, efficient, and accountable service. In this regard, there is definitely room for improvement."
"I appreciate the honesty, good customer service, and friendliness of the staff at NorthStar Financial. It all starts with the owner and founder, David Patrick. David is as good as they come. He helped when I was truly in need. For many years I had bought my insurance direct with a company that did not have agents. I was happy with them for 30 years, until they dropped me. David showed me how having an agent could have prevented that from happening. David has assembled a good staff, which includes Jim McOwen. Jim is knowledgeable, friendly and analytical. He does a great job of making sure I have the best amount of coverage for my situation. Not too little, and not too much. I had been with one very good company through NorthStar, for a number of years. At my renewal time, Jim enlightened me by letting me know that sometimes the variables involved in insurance companies pricing structures can change. He did some excellent work and found a different company with great ratings, for a far better annual cost. Jim is saving us about $1,450 per year! We have been very pleased with NorthStar.
