"I was not a patient, my wife was, and this is her unfortunate experience in her own words. "I had a tooth that chipped. Dr Neilson put a crown on it and fixed a cavity. He left bonding on my teeth which I had to go back in and have him get off, and my gum where the crown was felt irritated and inflamed and would bleed easily. Then, after having the crown for only 2 years and 5 months it chipped. When I went back to him, I was treated rudely by his billing/office lady and charged $350. After Dr Neilson told me it would be $200 for the cost of material. A week later, after biting my cheek EVERYDAY while eating, talking or chewing gum, I decided to have Dr Neilson look at the crown as it felt a little too tall and sharp on my check side. When he came in he seemed a little annoyed and stated that it should fit fine because they just took the mold of the last one to make this one. When I told him that I was biting my cheek where the crown was everyday, he said, "Well I have heard of that happening." Okay, well, whether you've heard of it or not, it's happening to me! Then I asked him since both my reg tooth and crown both chipped in the same spot should I be doing something differently or get my jaw checked and his response was, "Well I want you to chew the way you want to chew." That's wonderful, but I would like to stop having problems and stop coming to your office, so, maybe some better advice could've been offered? He looked at how the tooth with the crown was biting and proceeded to shave the crown, then asked how it felt. I told him it is hard to tell because I'm not eating or chewing. He checked the bite again and said he'd shave some more, then out of nowhere he started shaving the tooth that sits above the crown and then moved to the tooth that was 3 teeth away from the crown and shaved that one too. I was mortified, frozen with disbelief. Did he really shave teeth that I never asked him to touch? Teeth that had nothing to do with the crown? Did he really just play God and permanently alter two teeth without asking me?!? Had he explained what he wanted to do and asked my permission, I would've said no, but I at least would've been given the option to decline. He violated my right to say no. Then he said, How does that feel? I felt the teeth with my tongue, and they felt rough. He said he could polish them as if he wasn't planning on it until I told him they were rough. He polished them twice and even though they still felt rough I wanted to leave his office. When he left the room, the hygienist asked if I wanted her to polish them some more and I told her that I was upset because I had no idea he was going to do that. She said, he only shaved them a tiny amount, and I said, they felt differently, and I never asked for that. I cannot get those teeth back to the way they were. He changed the way my bite felt and how I chew food because of him shaving teeth that didn't need it. My teeth for the first week were sensitive and hurt to bite down. They didn't hit the teeth above or below them in the same way anymore which was uncomfortable. My experience here was horrible and if he truly cares about the people he works on he should ask permission to permanently alter teeth and he should send me a check for $350 as a refund." -Tanya"
"My experiences at Bloomington Dental, from making the appointment, being greeted by all of the employees and Dr. Neilson, the professional services received, and fees charged were beyond expectations. I would recommend this practice to anyone. Absolutely the best!"
"Aside from being praised about my oral hygiene habits, I wasn’t poked and told the pain was caused from a lack of flossing. Seriously though, the staff was so kind and even answered my questions on a variety of topics from dental care, activities in the area, and shared refreshing thoughts and opinions on matters I shared. Very personable group, so grateful for my visit to Dr. Neilson’s office."
"I had a great experience at Bloomington Dental. Dr. Neilson and his staff made me feel comfortable during my procedure of 2 crowns. This is my (go to) dentist for now on. I love the fact he can do anything you need done. Don't pass up this guy he's good."
