Reviews of barbata
"Drinks were amazing, moody atmosphere was very relaxing, absolutely loved the lighting!"
"High Hopes Dashed by a Lack of Ambiance. I entered Barbata with enthusiasm, eager to embrace the experience. However, I must confess that the value left me feeling underwhelmed. During our visit, we indulged in four drinks and three savory small dishes, resulting in a bill of $100. We tipped the charming bartender $20, bringing our total to $120. The $15 drinks were delightful, but the food offerings didn't quite measure up. The pan con tomate ($8) featured a petite (3-inch) piece of bread sporting a barely-there layer of tomato. The smoked oyster can and crackers, while delicious, were priced at a steep $16. The jamón serrano ($10) - essentially just ham on a plate - seemed to have taken minimalism a bit too far. These prices are on the high side, even for Tucson, and many other cities. However, the real issue isn't the cost; it's the lack of atmosphere and character. Barbata's minimalist design is sleek, but the ambiance is more frigid than inviting. With no music playing, the silence was nearly deafening, only broken by the distant chatter from the adjoining dining room. The LED lights on the tables, while visually appealing, emitted a cold tone that did little to create a warm or inviting atmosphere. Additionally, the overactive air conditioning unit made us wonder if we'd been transported to the Arctic. It felt as though the establishment had taken a crash course in creating the least cozy atmosphere imaginable. Where's the hygge, ambiance, or personality? I'm no stranger to paying premium prices for a memorable night out, but Barbata falls short of providing the necessary elements to justify the expense. The silver linings were the engaging bartender and the scrumptious drinks, but even they couldn't save the day. While I appreciate the establishment's potential, the shortcomings are too great to ignore. With a heavy heart, I must bid adieu to Barbata and seek warmer, more inviting pastures."
"This place was awesome. Came here for drinks with a coworker and my boyfriend on a Friday night. Nicely lit interior, friendly staff, great decor and tasty drinks. The drinks themselves are on the expensive side for the cocktails but they're pretty unique, taste good, and it's a great environment."
"Great atmosphere in the speakeasy basement! We came to celebrate with friends and family and just wanted some drinks and appetizers. The drinks were exceptional! We had an old fashioned and some other fruity drinks which were incredible. Appetizers are more bite sized, but that's the style. It's a cool bar, with great service and we highly recommend it."
"Dinner upstairs was fantastic, every course was delicious and different. Downstairs, our mustachioed bartender was knowledgeable, super fun to chat with, and made us fantastic cocktails. We looked to the left and inquired what was under a glass cover at the end of the bar. It was cheesecake. This cheesecake may have been the best I’ve ever had. It blew the Bata desserts out of the water, and I’m told it’s the same pastry chef. Go to Barbata, have a fantastic cocktail or four, and eat this damn cheesecake. I don’t know how you can be light and fluffy and still super rich, but it’s utterly incredibly."
