"I can’t say enough great things about the catering and event staff at Brother John’s. I planned a 50th birthday party in the private room and front patio with the events director, Diana and she was attentive to every detail and request we had. Her and Becca were super creative and took my vision and made it happen beyond my expectations. They also helped with suggestions, always answered my questions and were available to meet several times before the party. Christie, Marissa and Jeffery were our servers and bartenders and they were so kind and helpful to our guests. We had so many compliments on the party and many people who want to book there too. The atmosphere was perfect for our party and plenty of room for the 60+ guests. We danced, ate amazing food, and enjoyed many of their specialty drinks. I’d have a party here again in a heartbeat. The price was also very reasonable. I even got to meet Brother John who is lovely. The entire staff worked very well together to make our event exceptional and we are truly thankful and thrilled about how well the party went."
"Despite the abundance of staff, the service at Butcher John’s BBQ was disappointingly slow and disorganized. Regrettably, my order arrived 15 minutes late, and the food was dry and unappealing. Despite requesting sweet potato tots, I received soggy and undercooked SP fries instead. This experience was underwhelming, leading us to offer the subpar meat (beef brisket) to our dogs and discard the fries. On a positive note, our search for exceptional barbecue led us to compare Butcher John’s with the Bashful Butcher, revealing a remarkable contrast. The Bashful Butcher presented tender, flavorful meat—a true culinary delight in contrast to the lackluster experience at Butcher John’s. While Butcher John’s failed to meet our expectations, it prompted an appreciation for establishments like the Bashful Butcher, where food is crafted with pride and excellence. Unlike the delectable melt-in-your-mouth experience at the Bashful Butcher, Butcher John’s barbecue left much to be desired. As someone new to Tucson, discovering a reputable barbecue spot was essential, and though Butcher John’s fell short, it served as a valuable learning experience. The picture below are a comparison between the dry, stiff meat stick from Butcher Johns and the tender, juicy sandwich from The Bashful Butcher is stark. In an attempt to salvage Butcher John’s brisket, I resorted to dousing it with barbecue sauce, hoping to add some moisture and tenderness. Unfortunately, it was a futile effort, and the brisket remained disappointingly dry and tough."
"Quite a large dining area and an outdoor patio. Interesting bar decor. I had the lunch special of fatty brisket with two sides which was plenty of food. Our waiter said that the special is a slightly smaller portion. Mine wasn't too fatty, friends though had a bit more. The pinto beans were tasty with some burnt ends included. Live music on a stage on Friday nights. This is a fun spot!"
"Great place for large group meals. About 20 of us met for lunch. Plenty of seating was available outside, where we enjoyed some privacy and great weather. Service was good, and the waiter was easily able to split check for all individual parties. I'm not a fan of BBQ and generally prefer salads over meat centric dishes. I found a suitable salad while my husband and others enjoyed pulled pork, brisket, mac n'cheese, etc.. Brother John's won't be my first choice for healthy eating going forward, but the menu does accommodate different meal requirements."
