Reviews of NYPD New York Pizza Department
"Larger than normal size items are validated by the price. Unfortunately more does not mean tastier. Pizza and calzones were 6/10. Being a NYC native, I would not compare these pizzas or calzones to NYC quality and taste. Overall, not a bad option for Tucson."
"I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was upside down when I opened it. I flipped it over and half of it didn't have meat on it. See pictures. This place is typically good but this time I am very disappointed. Two stars because the fries were OK."
"This is one of the more dive-y pizza restaurants that I've visited in Tucson for quite some time. I've been meaning to try NYPD New York Pizza Department as I live nearby, so I finally did it. Overall, I came away somewhat disappointed with the experience, but the vibe and pizza of this place seems ideal for a university environment. Let's call the entire experience ... rustic. The interior. Inside the restaurant, you'll find a basic setup. Tables, chairs, high-tops in an open setting. You have to go to the counter to order the pizza. The inside is in decent condition, if not immaculately clean. The table I was sitting at was wobbly, which is a telltale sign of a dive restaurant. They really should fix that up. The staff. The staff were friendly, if a bit disorganized. They all fit behind a small counter, which is a somewhat awkward setup. The food. I ordered the Batman Bread and a 20-inch Philly Cheesesteak Pizza as I wanted something a bit different. The Batman Bread was delicious -- soft bread with cheese and jalapenos -- how can you go wrong with that, eh? The menu says there should be bacon in the dish, but there was no bacon to be found anywhere. For the pizza, the product was cooked well and looked good. Unfortunately, the flavor did not match the presentation. This was one of the greasiest pizzas I've eaten in a long time. That's probably due to the choice of cheese that they use, but just be aware of that when you order their pizzas. For drinks, they offer fountain sodas and craft beers only. So, overall, I might have enjoyed this more if I was in college back in the day, but that type of vibe isn't quite what I expected here. This place does fill a niche in the Tucson east-side pizza scene, but there are many much better pizzas in the city."
"Slices as big as your head! They have really stepped up since they first opened. Really good food, service was good. Fish fry Friday was very delish, will be coming back on a Friday again for that."
"Fantastic environment, feels very welcoming and quite open. High top and table options. The menu is great, offering plenty of basic options for pizzas most are probably used to, as well as a selection of specialty pizzas which look divine. I went for the wings and was not disappointed. The wings are big and juicy, and were cooked perfectly. The buffalo hot sauce for the wings was the perfect flavor. Seriously worth a visit even if you only get wings."
