Reviews of Banfield Pet Hospital
"I have taken all my pets here for quite some time they are always very nice and very helpful and they are always very good with my pets I highly recommend them their plans are also great because you get a full years worth of service for what you could pay in just one vet visit and it includes many things"
"This veterinary team was neglectful, unconcerned and uncommunicative regarding one of the best dogs this world has ever had. He deserved better. He did not deserve to go out like he did. I have already strongly advised my friends to take action against this place and am fully supportive of any legal actions they choose to take. Heck I told them to contact their corporate. Again, this sweetest dog I have ever met, did not deserve to go out the way he did. If anything, this place should be ashamed of themselves. They should look in the mirror and feel this tragedy, just like so many others are with his passing. If this does not weigh on them, then they really need to look in the mirror and change professions. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Shame on them!"
"Transferred our dogs from the Boise location to the Meridian location due to substandard care practices. Unfortunately, Banfield transferred their previous Boise manager to the Meridian location, where he now works the front desk. We had previous issues with the Boise location for medical incompetence, and the previous manager referenced above. This morning, I refused a procedure that they've done 4 times before (all recent, and one was refunded as unnecessary and incorrect diagnosis). To say the least, it's really wasteful to continue to do something again and again that has proven to be an ineffective diagnostic tool (his response was that we need to rule it out again for the 5th time, so pay up stupid - the "pay up stupid" are my words. not his). I realized at that point that the general practitioner approach of Banfield can work for very common ailments that can follow a logical diagnostic script, but when it comes to anything even remotely out of the norm, they are not equipped to provide that level of medical diagnostics. In our case, a steroidal eye drop has helped to manage an eye inflamation problem, but they can't say what is causing the inflamation, nor would they prescribe more without an examination... Incestuous and circular! Today, I was very explicit when I said, we don't need a 5th eye stain, in fact, I had to say no, at least 5 times, perhaps 10 times to get the horribly condescending front desk guy (former practice manager who feels lecturing customers is part of his job description), who even said, "my dog gets ear infections, so I have them test the ears everytime"... As if I care how he cares for his pet, or as if I care about his views about how I care for mine. I get that he has passion for his work and cares about my animals care, but he doesn't know me, or my comprehension, nor did he care that this was the 5th time we've been seen for the same, non corneal scratch, issue. To top all of this off, he was the Boise practice manager at the time we brought in one of our other dogs who was very sick. They kept him all day, but didn't even do a blood test. Then, after around 8 hours, called us in a panic and effectively told us our dog likely has cancer and was near death and needed to go to WestVet for treatment. The dog survived (didnt have cancer), but the non care from Boise PetSmart was pathetic, and when my wife called to discuss, he decided to defend the inaction by saying they were busy and didn't do a blood test for a still unknown reason. Didn't offer an apology, didn't try to diffuse the situation. In today's case, he decided that his condescending monolog was more important than my very declarative statement of "no eye stain", and he kept saying, "you need to listen to me, you need to let me talk"... Very literally, I do not need to listen to him, he needs to listen to me. If he doesn't agree, have me speak to a Dr. to discuss... The front desk clerk doesn't get to define our pets care... Never! I thought about it, talked to my wife, then asked for my dog back without allowing her to be seen by Banfield. I then spoke to the practice manager, who listened and appeared sympathetic to my concerns. She also agreed that they are not equipped to diagnose my dogs eye issue as they don't have an ophthalmologist on staff, and that I should go to WestVet (she provided a referral). All in all, Banfield seems to have difficulty in hiring and/or retaining high quality employees, some of whom, have the empathy and communication skills more aptly suited for solitary roles, preferably in a back room, where they no longer can impact customer relations. If taken in a vacuum, today could be seen as an overreaction, but both the Boise and Meridian locations communicate poorly and take a very sanctimonious stance when you have a different perspective, and don't back down when they decide to tell you how to care for your pets. I have not had any poor care from the Meridian location, but the Boise issues seem to, at least in part, follow their employees, and we've had enough!"
