Reviews of The Quacky Quilter Haberdashery
"I commissioned a Tshirt quilt to be made out of my husband's treasured mementos from youth and college. While at the shop I focused the colors of fabric to be used and used thread to pick the colors. I picked olive (his favorite color), forest green (his second favorite [verbally specifying only to use it if it didn't clash with the other colors]), and navy, white and, a light grey blue (his college colors). To find the right light blue I discussed with her at length the light color that was slightly more grey than the light blue thread she had. She pulled a couple bolts of fabric that were perfect matches for the college colors and an olive and we settled on the size and number of shirts to be used and I stated I wanted to all to be complementary with the colors. A few weeks later she texted a picture of the mock up for the quilt in the dark tones I picked. It was perfect and I approved of it. I thought everything was great when I paid online and my mom picked it up for me. When I opened the quilt much to my heartbreak it was nothing like the mock up. The worst of it was a random bright teal/aqua was used for the main body of the quilt. I know for a fact I never asked for teal. My husband hates teal. It clashes horrifically with the rest of the quilt. I asked the quilter about the teal hoping to hear how the mistake had been made and that we could fix it. I was met with defensiveness and denial. She's told me I should have had other people come check over the quilt. She's claimed the pictures of the material show the teal (they don't and I'm happy to produce them). She deleted the comment made by a quilter friend that's used her many times when she posted the pictures of the mock up and the entirely different colored finished product. I cannot stress enough how difficult trying to rectify the situation has become and how much gaslighting has begun to take place. I'm now out nearly $1200 for a quilt that is nothing like what I asked for and has damaged several shirts. I'm now looking for a new quilter to salvage the gift I tried to give my husband. I'm devastated I risked his memories to end up with a clashing quilt with colors I didn't ask for and he hates. My mother was present when I picked the colors and remembered I didn't pick teal and chose the complementing colors. The quilter had tried to claim that since my mother didn't express concern about the color that it's fine or my fault she used the wrong material. My mother wasn't the person ordering or paying for the quilt... what's she supposed to say? "Hey did you mess up?" This experience has been awful. I would not recommend risking mementos here. I've been told now to give the quilt covered in a color I didn't ask for that my husband hates to him anyways because maybe "he'll come to love it". No. I should not have to give him something that was ordered in colors he likes but was mistakenly made and I paid over a thousand dollars for hoping he'll "come to love it". I can't express how disappointed I am."
