"Decent selection of flooring options, but it doesn’t matter because what you want is likely on back order. So we get something they recommend is “similar” and the installers bring out something practically white. Who wants white carpet in 2021? So whatever, not at all what we wanted. Floor is maybe one shade darker than our white ceiling, but it’s comfortable, soft, new, whatever. I’ll try to convince myself it was worth it. Then we look at the walls when it’s all finished, dudes booked it out real quick, and we have a gouge you can see across the basement that’s almost all the way through the Sheetrock. Pretty sure the firewall behind it is what saved it. Several other dings, scrapes, whatnot throughout the installed areas. It’s great. There were two beds and two shelving units total left in the installed areas. Basement is larger than my first apartment and I didn’t ding its walls up, so maybe it’s just me. I’ll never understand why carpet guys hate walls so much. Anyway, they tossed the excess in the garage, which is fine. Not like we’ll need it if it’s really the quality we paid for…but the kicker is, in tossing the remnants in the garage, they knocked down a ladder, that then hit my motorcycle…didn’t say anything and left the ladder on the ground. Thanks guys! Maybe buy from here if you can wait for what you actually ordered, but definitely find your own installers. Update: Dropped it down to one star because they sent somebody out after they read my initial update, looked around at the dings, holes in the wall they made. Promised they would fix their damage and never came back out. Also, every transition they put in needed replaced in the not quite two years, carpet literally coming up at the seams, they managed to lose 90% of the brads that were there before they “installed” the carpet. Carpet stains like nobody’s business and is honestly worse than the builder grade flipper carpet that was originally here. How is this place still in business?"
"If I could rate negative stars, I would. Our builder required us to use them, and if I could go back in time, I would have picked a different builder just to avoid having to use Star. To start, their pricing is not transparent at all. When asked for a cost breakdown when we switched our tile selection for our shower, they couldn't explain why it suddenly coat $1,000 more for less material and not that much more expensive of a tile. Now, we're to the point where the installation is a nightmare. To start, the installation guy didn't read the plans and fully tiled the bench in the shower that was supposed to have a quartz top. Which means tile had to be pulled after install. Instead of pulling the tile and installing the bench before the tile, they left the tile and so the bench now has up to 3/8ths of an inch gap in some places which requires caulk. Those gaps have already sunken in and are just asking for water damage. Onto the kitchen backsplash. They started by installing both a chipped and a cracked tile and somehow managed to use two different colors of grout. It has taken them over a month to pull and fix one of those damaged tiles. In the process, they failed to put any protection down and severely scratched the cooktop. They also decided to use an even darker grout around the tile they fixed, so we now have 3 different grout colors in our kitchen that's supposed to have 1. In this process, they allowed mortar to drop into and cure in place on the LVP. They also managed to get so much water on the cast iron griddle that was sitting on the cooktop it's now thoroughly rusted. Speaking of LVP, the sample they had in store did not match what ended up showing up. We ended up with a floor several shades darker than initially expected. Last, but not least, the exterior doors. First, they ordered the wrong inswing on the front door, so they reordered it and on the second order they ordered a door slightly too big for the framing so it is very difficult to close and latch. They also ordered the wrong sidelites, so now they have to reorder the entire front door assembly. Third time is a charm, hopefully but I doubt it. Also in addition to the wrong doors they failed to order and install the upgraded patch system on both our front and side door, which we paid extra for. Now they have to replace the side entrance door as well. Long story short, if your builder tells you they use star because they guarantee their work and will redo shoddy work it's because they will. 10 times. And you'll pay a premium for it and still end up with a worse install than going to someone that actually cares about their work."
"Mad I didn’t use them for more things when I finished my basement. Great selection, great employees and fast delivery."
"I know this is hard to believe but Star Lumber still answers the phone! No automated robots to get you to the wrong department. Star is still a real lumberyard. A lot of folks probably don't remember real lumberyards but there was once a time when employees of lumberyards knew things and understood general residential construction. I'm sure there are some knowledgeable people at the box stores but generally, if you don't walk in with A "sku" number, they're completely lost. I'd rather even pay a little more for good service and knowledgeable salespeople."
"I have been doing business with Star Lumber for years. My father did business with Star Lumber all of his life. We have always been treated honestly and fairly. Recently I have been calling in orders for delivery and they have the procedures streamlined to get me what I need when I need it. Try getting that kind of service at the orange, blue, or green stores!"
