Reviews of Boise River Birth Center
"I have had four babies and BRBC was the best birth experience out of all of them. The women were amazing and supportive. Very much about me, and the baby. It was very freeing to be able to have an actual say in what I wanted for birthing my baby."
"They are absolutely awful when it comes to insurance billing. I wish I had seen the other reviews and issues people had with sketchy billing practices and not getting refunded. Kelli never returned a phone call, the only time I ever got a call back from them was when they needed my new address. They claimed my insurance didn’t send a second payment and that I wasn’t owed a refund for months, then after insurance reached out to them they sent a refund, but claimed I was overpaid the first time. Thankfully I kept the invoice and receipt and was able to prove them wrong. It doesn’t end there, Kelli told me she could provide an invoice for the facility fee I could submit to insurance, however it was dated incorrectly and not filled out correctly and she will not provide a corrected invoice. My understanding is that even if they are not in network the amount can be applied to deductible. I wish I had gone somewhere else, our experience was great until our care was over, then the insurance issues started and we were ignored. There was no communication which added to the sketchy mess and really makes them look dishonest."
"TLDR; don’t go here, owner is a pos. I went to BRBC hoping to find a team of women who would support and encourage me throughout my pregnancy, speak positivity on me and my ability to have a successful natural birth. When I joined the birth center, I made it clear that I consume cannabis, I’m a medical patient but came to Idaho to be with family during my pregnancy. I was encouraged to try other methods of consumption, which I did, but the only thing that prevented ALL DAY, debilitating nausea, was to smoke. I was responsible in my use and aware of the risks. The owner of BRBC (Kellie) was repeatedly letting me know she didn’t believe in me, didn’t think I would have a successful unmedicated birth because I used cannabis. Never did I feel heard here. When I made it to my anatomy scan they would tell me my baby is way too small, something is wrong. What was wrong was that Kellie never wanted to listen and put what she thought was the date as my conception date not the date I told her I got pregnant without a doubt. When I informed the hospital and they changed the date, my baby was right on track. I was not interested in numerous tests, jabs, etc, but was always being pressured to go against my instincts and pushed until I gave in to whatever test they were trying to run. During a child birthing class, she singled out my partner and I. She asked everyone about their pets, happily let everyone know their dog breeds sound so cute! Until she heard what kind of dog I had, then that was irresponsible of us and we should never under any circumstances let our dog be near our baby. My baby is almost one now and my dogs LOVE her, are so gentle and kind and have never been a concern. After this embarrassing scene at the birthing class, I called the center and requested that she not come to my birth. I had already given them thousands of dollars, couldn’t afford to transfer my care elsewhere, but didn’t want someone who clearly had no desire to support me, around me during such a vulnerable time. I was assured that wasn’t a problem, Kellie will not arrive to your birth when the time comes. Awesome, I can breathe. But this of course was too good to be true. I arrive at the birth center around 7 PM on a Tuesday evening. When I called to let them know I was on my way, they asked if they could bring a student I had never met before. I said yes, and while she was not an issue, I do wish they hadn’t even asked. I was in labor already and not thinking straight, let alone comfortable enough to say no. but adding more unknown energy to my birth space wasn’t pleasant. I went into the birth center and was checked my the midwife on call who said I was 8cm. Awesome, I’ve got this! I’m a champion and I will succeed. We get the birth pool up, I’m doing great, breathing well and calm. Then. Guess who?! Kellie! As soon as she arrived everything shifted. Now I feel tense, my breathing is faster, and I can’t relax. I wish I had been offered gas at this point, as that is something I believe could have changed the outcome of this story. But because Kellie wanted to classify me as a drug user, this was never even offered. We try a few things and I know that it’s now too late, I can’t get comfortable with her in my space. She decided to do a cervical check and tells me I’m only 4 cm. After such a dramatic shift in the energy and my comfort, as well as the one person I requested not in my space there, I knew things were only going to get worse. At around 2 am, I decide to transfer. At this point I have been in labor for 48 hours, and have had very little sleep. I needed rest to power through this labor. I go to the hospital, am on pitocin and an epidural and it still took another 14 hours to birth. I almost ended up in a c section. I requested my medical papers from BRBC , where Kellie wrote that I used drugs my entire pregnancy, and that SHE CHOSE to transfer me because of my “ongoing drug and cigarette use.” I felt so disrespected and ashamed, and what she said wasn’t even the truth. My review has been cut short, I could say much more."
"Kelly, Chris, and their team are AMAZING! I recommend them to anyone looking for a midwifery here in the treasure valley! I had a complication at the end of my birth but they handled it very well and my baby and I turned out happy and healthy! Love these ladies so much!!"
"The staff is friendly, caring and welcoming. They are also so knowledgable and passionate about educating not only their clients but also the community. They encourage you to learn about pregnancy, labor and postpartum and they are ready to help you with any questions to their best knowledge. Because I was moving I ended up choosing a birth center that was going to be closer but they still encouraged and welcomed me to take birth classes with them and that was one of the best gifts anyone gave me for this pregnancy. I learnt a lot and I felt a lot more comfortable and ready about everything after the classes. If it wasn't for moving, I would have totally chose them for the birth. Thank you so much. You guys are amazing!!"
