Reviews of Palouse Medical, P.S.
"Unfortunately our experience of Palouse Medical Urgent Care left much to be desired. Dr. Lyle shared that his foot was fractured - and gave us a boot for it - told to wear it for a month, then go right back to sports. A couple weeks later at his sports physical inside Palouse Pediatrics the Dr. let us know that the radiologist says his foot x-ray shows normal and in her words, "Radiology trumps my opinion." She thoroughly examined the foot and released him for sports immediately. Not knowing what to do I called Palouse Medical and asked that they reimburse me for the boot ($150) that wasn't needed seeing how we were never notified the foot was fine. Ashley in billing had Dr. Hall review the radiographs and he disagreed with Radiology - so they aren't willing to credit the boot to our account, she also noted that the boot was only for comfort care. So I have 1 Radiologist and one Dr. saying the foot is fine, but 2 of Palouse Medicals DRs saying there is a fracture. Now not only am I out the $150 for the boot that was not needed but also another $150 for PT because of side effects from wearing the boot unnecessarily. After sharing my experience with friends I found out Inland Orthopedic in Pullman offers an express walk in clinic - will go straight there next time."
"9.14.23 Update: It appears that Palouse Medical is still struggling with finding and keeping providers. I had called at the beginning of August to schedule my annual exam and was told there are no appointments for the rest of the year, that they don't have access to book appointments for 2024 yet and to call back in October after they've hired new providers. The front end staff seemed as frustrated as I was when relaying this information to me. I instead contacted Planned Parenthood and was able to be seen for my annual exam within a week of contacting them. There's a concern that if there are no appointments available that other patients are putting off being seen, this is going to lead to a bigger strain on the ER and become more costly for regular patients to just be seen by a doctor. Not a clue what is going on internally at this clinic, but something has got to give sooner rather than later. ------------ I've been a patient here for around 7-8 years and in that time I've gone through at least 5 different providers, 3 alone in the last 2 years. It's incredibly frustrating not being able to have a consistent care. Each time I have to find a new provider within the clinic, I am billed for a 'new patient appointment' despite being an established patient...even if this is just to get prescriptions renewed. It's become increasingly apparent that providing care for their community is not a top priority, asking them to go the extra mile on anything is also a bit too much to ask. It seems that maybe some of their staff should reevaluate if the medical field is where they actually want to be... All that being said, I really have not had much of an issue with the front end staff like has been mentioned in numerous other reviews. There have been a few times where there has been some phone tag, but overall everyone has been pretty helpful, quick and easy to work with."
"My doctor at Palouse Medical sent my prescription over to the pharmacy incorrectly - it should have had 4 refills listed and was instead sent with no refills. When I realized the mistake and called to ask them to fix it, I was told that my doctor no longer worked there and I was listed as not having a doctor - I couldn’t get any prescriptions changed or refilled until I “established care” with a new provider - despite having already been established with the practice. The wait was over two months to get an appointment. I scheduled an appointment with the first available provider and they gave me a temporary refill of my medication, but when I picked it up, the refill they had given me was for a month less than the time I had to wait for my next appointment. After another stressful phone call in which we were transferred to a voicemail with no warning, I got a call back from the administrator. She was extremely nice and helpful and understanding and worked immediately to resolve the prescription issue such that I didn’t have to come in and pay for a visit before the timeframe I would have had to return for a regular checkup in the first place. I am still not sure how I feel about remaining with this practice - what if this happens again, my new assigned doctor moves, and I have to wait for a new establishing appointment all over again? - It’s just a pain, and expensive, and very, very stressful. However, the administration was prompt and so helpful and let me know what steps to take if I have trouble in the future, so that was helpful."
"I recently returned to Pullman after living in Europe for a period of time. The organization that hosted me while I was abroad asked that I be tested for tuberculosis as soon as possible after my arrival home (for liability purposes). No other clinics in the area seemed to be willing to help, so I called Palouse Medical to see if they would be able to administer a TB test. I have never been to the clinic myself, but I have family who see Dr. Hall on a regular basis and their insurance plan -- of which I am a member -- covers their trips. Upon calling the office I was informed rather stiffly that I was not a preexisting patient at the clinic and therefore could not receive a tuberculosis test. When I inquired further about other possible options I was basically told that I was on my own. Welcome to medical care on the Palouse, I guess. TL;DR This clinic was less than helpful in a time of need."
"Me and my son's new doctor, Dr. Harris deserves 5 stars. She's amazing beyond belief. However, my original doctor while I was pregnant, Dr. Molly Thompson is who this review is for. My baby was born months ago in June and the experience I had with Dr. Thompson still weighs heavily on my mind. I saw Dr. Thompson throughout my pregnancy. She was great up until the point when it was time for me to have my baby. I called to schedule an induction initially, as I was going to be a week overdue. Dr. Thompson told me that she would be gone the weekend I was going to need my induction scheduled and claimed she had told me this at my past appointment. If this were true, I would have scheduled my induction during the week when she was going to be available. Without consulting me first, she went ahead and scheduled the induction with Dr. Hall who she described as a kind grandpa. Dr. Hall ended up delivering my baby via emergency c section, which I am extremely grateful for, but I was planning for Dr. Thompson to be the one delivering my baby. I told Dr. Thompson I wasn't comfortable with the arrangements she made and requested her to ask one of her female colleagues if they could deliver my baby instead. Dr. Harris was my saving grace, she agreed to deliver my baby and she is the best doctor I've seen in years. Post delivery, I made the mistake of having Dr. Thompson as me and my son's physician. At my son's 3 day checkup, Dr. Thompson diagnosed him as jaundice and told me I immediately needed to go back to the birthing center. I did as instructed. My baby was not jaundice enough to even go under the lights. In fact, the insurance company denied the claim the hospital sent because my baby was not jaundice enough to qualify. The nurses disrupted me constantly throughout my 24 hour stay, sometimes coming in every 30 minutes at 6 in the morning. I understand this is their job, but the number of times people were entering my room was very disruptive to me sleeping. One nurse said to me while my baby was crying that I needed to feed him ASAP because he "didn't have the calories to spare" to be crying. This deeply upset me and I cried. I told her that was not okay to say. I was exhausted, trying to heal from a c section while trying to breastfeed my newborn every 2 hours on the dot. Dr. Thompson came to see my baby and I around 7 or 8 in the morning. She told me that he was "not out of the woods yet", but she still planned on releasing me that afternoon. I explained to her I breastfed my baby as long as I could per a nurse's recommendation, she told me I only needed to spend 10-15 minutes. I expressed to her this was upsetting because I could have been getting very necessary sleep that my body desperately needed post surgery and that the nurse should have known this information as well, given she was a nurse in the birthing center and this should be common knowledge to them. Later that day, as I was walking around the birthing center with my baby, I was ambushed by a social worker. I explained my frustration to the social worker with both the experience with the nurse and what my doctor had told me. The social worker was persistent on interrogating me regarding postpartum depression. Dr. Harris has been consistently understanding and respectful of me and my son as her patients. I thought Dr. Thompson was going to be the same way but she proved otherwise. Maybe she didn't have a good weekend off, I'm not sure, but no patient or brand new mother should be subject to an experience like I went through."
