Reviews of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center
"Worst experience of my life. I was in for three days and had multiple doctors and nurses giving me the runaround, bad information, and completely neglectful treatment, as well as misdiagnosed. I was told at first that I might have cancer, then an infection, then that I needed a blood transfusion. On and on it went and in the end I was let go with no answers. None of it was accurate. I went hours without my pain meds after calling the nurses multiple times. God help you during a shift change. I was actually told by multiple staff members that I wasn’t the only patient in the hospital when I finally got upset because I was in pain and overdue for my medication. Never ever again will I step foot in a Saint Alphonsus facility."
"I went to get my blood drawn in the laboratory and blacked out. Needles and I disagree. The staff was incredibly kind, something I really needed coming back to reality. The phlebotomist even gave me her lunch snack, a crunch bar, offering without me asking. A little bit of kindness can go a long way!"
"By far the worst hospital I’ve ever experienced. We were told by urgent care to come into the ER. When we got there, the lady checking people in was very kind. But once we got to triage, and back into the ER area, it was a totally different story. The RN who took the initial vitals was very condescending and talking to my 18 year old sister like she was an inconvenience/hypochondriac…total attitude. We then got sent back and she had a different male nurse (badge said EMT) he was just as rude…if not worse than the lady before. Then we were put in one of the “rooms” which is just sectioned off by a curtain. You could hear all the nurses having conversations…personal/private conversations, all while we had zero communication from anyone. We sat there 20+ mins not having any communication from anyone there while everyone was goofing off. I say goofing off because of the conversations they were having. And when I looked out the curtain, 3 nurses (2 of them were helping us earlier in the visit but then sat us down in this area without being told a single thing, just “sit here.”) were just doing a crossword puzzle. The bedside manner here was terrible. And they were acting as if we were wasting their time. I do not recommend coming here at all."
"Let me ask you a serious question... If you went into the hospital and they dropped you off a gurney, breaking your arm, wouldn't you expect them to fix it?? After all your arm wasn't broken when you got there! Now... in my case it wasn't a gurney or my arm, but same principle! I will leave out a lot of the gory details for the sake of brevity. Here's what happened... I was in and out of the hospital last year with complications leading up to my eventual transplant surgery. Last November (2022) I was transported to Saint Alphonsus and was in a coma for several days. When I arrived I was quickly taken to the ICU, where the Doctor managed to knock out my two front teeth while intubating me!! Not great, but what she did next was even worse! After giving me the Rocky Balboa treatment, she proceeded to be nasty, unapologetic and completely dismissive to my distraught wife and family that were at the hospital. Now let me say, the rest of the staff was amazing, caring and shocked at what happened and how that Doctor acted! After getting out of the hospital my wife called to lodge a complaint about the Doctor and find out what we needed to do to get my teeth fixed. Since we were on our way to Utah, in hopes of a viable transplant donor, we left it at that. We truly believed that when/if I recovered from my transplant the hospital would surely do the right thing! Right? I mean... I went into the hospital with two front teeth! Wrong! We eventually received a letter claiming it was "a possible complication"! What!? I now refer you back to the broken arm scenario from the start of the post. Sure... dropping you off a gurney is "a possible complication", but I'm pretty confident they would fix your arm! We didn't want some huge cash payout... nothing more than the cost of getting my teeth replaced!! That's all!! But after a year we continue to be told it's "Not Their Responsibility"!! I think what disappoints me even more than that Doctor’s actions, is the lack of any responsibility on the part of St. Al's!! **Please Note** In the year and a half before that incident I had been in for treatments twice a week and several other hospital stays. The Medical Imaging team, the nurses on the second floor and the registration team are incredible and became like second family through my journey!"
"I had a hiatal hernia surgery and the entire experience was outstanding! Surgeon Doctor Reising and PA Troy were exceptional. Check in staff were courteous and helpful, Erin in prep was friendly and efficient, I was asleep before the team entered the operating room, so didn't see any of them. At recovery came out with severe pain and breathing difficulty because my lung had collapsed to move my stomach back where it belonged and a veritable beehive swirled around me to bring relief and a tube was inserted to relieve the problem, then off to a room for observation where David and Susan, then Adrienne, then Eric and Liya provided friendly and courteous care for my comfort. I couldn't even choose which one did more - every stage was exceptional and I experienced grace and excellent handling through the entire process. I am home where I slept well, breathing well (using a mechanism to keep things moving forward and it is helpful and I'm breathing well) and am having merely mild body pain throughout my torso which is exceptional after all the pulling, mending and cutting done inside me, and haven't taken any of the pain medication I was given and walking and moving around just fine. My appreciation cannot be overstated and I feel blessed for the experience, which I do not intend to repeat. My wife Susan was with me the entire time and is equally grateful and thankful for the care and courteous i was given."
