Stearman Field Bar & Grill

"A must-try bar and grill experience in Benton, Kansas, just a short trip Northeast of Wichita. The Bloody Mary’s are worth the drive alone, and this last visit was phenomenal with the great salads, tasty pizza, and the signature Grandpappy’s Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich. Atmosphere at Stearman’s is highlighted by the airfield directly next to the restaurant, a nice patio and covered outdoor area, and some impressively huge fans overhead of the two main dining spots. Service as a whole is the only thing that is mediocre here but there are some staff members that are fun, courteous, and not as rushed. I can definitely recommend an afternoon or evening trip here for all area locals and visitors."

"Arrived late on Tuesday afternoon. Not very busy. Hostess let us pick our seat. Clean restaurant, aviation themed decorations, and excellent views of the runway. They had a great patio but it was closed due to the cold weather. Restaurant was warm and comfortable feeling. Craft beer was cold and easy to drink. Our meals were served hot and as we ordered. No issues with special orders here. Had an enjoyable time and will go again."

"First time at the restaurant, decided to go with the brunch buffet, personally disappointed. The food was comparable to motel breakfast food. In all fairness, I did not try the fresh made omelette, which others in the group said was good. There were several planes landing and taking off, which made for a nice experience. The service was ok, I did have to go ask for a drink refill, which the bar attendant wasn't pleasantly accommodating. Other than the experience of watching the planes, I personally wouldn't go back. Keep in mind, this is one person's opinion. Ps. The pancakes were really good."

"Flew in to the airport with my nephews so they could experience the joys of general aviation. The restaurant, and location is really neat. It was pretty cool to fly in, park the plane, walk to the table a hundred feet away, and watch people fly in/out. The servers were really friendly and attentive. We got burgers and chicken strips. The wait for food was on the longer side of normal, but nothing terrible. The server kept us stocked on drinks, and even brought out pitchers so we never ran out. The food was only mediocre though. It was a very "meh" burger. Nothing fancy. In summary, I wouldn't come back for the food, but I would come back for the experience. I flew in, but not everyone has that luxury. If you're into general aviation, it's worth a stop just to be able to watch the planes come and go while you eat."
