Reviews of Volcanic Farms
"Gluten free pies are the best you can buy. Ordered 2 Pecan Gluten Free for Thanksgiving and they reminded me of my mom’s Pecan Pies. Perfect!"
"On July 20, 2023 I stopped in to buy a cherry pie. Their pies have been the best I have had. Today, the supply of pies was limited and I bought a strawberry-rhubarb pie. When I cut into it for my first slice, it was dry and looked old. I could not find a date on the pie box. I wanted to enjoy this slice of pie yet it really had minimal taste and the crust was not flaky. Unfortunately, I had to discard the pie; such a bummer!"
"Volcanic Farms in Horseshoe Bend is a produce stand that is best known for their pies. But they also have other products too. Their fresh produce is limited right now due to season, but you’ll find more as the weather starts to warm up. In 2021, I bought a Strawberry Rhubarb pie at Volcanic Farms; it was very good. On 4/8/22, I visited Volcanic Farms for the second time. This time, I got slices of three different pies: Mixed Berry, Cherry, and Peach. These pies were not as good, nor was the crust. I didn’t care for the Peach pie at all. I preferred the Mixed Berry to the Cherry. If I had to guess, I think the Strawberry Rhubarb pie filling was made from scratch, but the three slices were from frozen fruit, as most pies are. The pie crust wasn’t as good this time either. Maybe it was a one off, but I would rank the frozen Marie Calendar’s pies in each of these three flavors as superior. I liked that they had several gluten-free pie slices to choose from. Next time you’re passing through Horseshoe Bend, try a slice of Volcanic Farm’s pie and let me know what you think. In all fairness, I am pretty particular about pie. Pie is one of my favorite desserts, but I don’t eat it often because it’s hard to find good pie. To give you an example of just how hard it is, one of my favorite places is the Chimacum Café, a little corner in the road en route to Port Townsend, Washington, which if I’m lucky I get to visit twice a year. For the first few years after I discovered the Chimacum Café, every time I visited I would get three slices of pie. The first slice was Rhubarb, which I would eat in my car outside the restaurant. Because of the time of day I visited, I called that “lunch pie.” The second slice was Wild Blackberry. This is a seasonal pie made with hand-picked berries, so it costs a premium, but it’s well worth it. I would eat this late at night after returning from my day trip to Port Townsend. I called it “dessert pie.” The third slice would be a flavor I hadn’t tried before. I would eat at the next morning. I called it “breakfast pie.” If you’re ever anywhere close to Chimacum, Washington, I would highly recommend you make a point of stopping by to try this pie. While at Volcanic Farms, I also bought a jar of Strawberry Rhubarb jam ($6.95). I didn’t care for it. I found it overly sweet. I couldn’t really taste the strawberry or the rhubarb. They have lots of different flavors of jam, including Huckleberry. One of the great things about this business is that it is conveniently located right next to a Chevron gas station that serves Dole Whip. I would never pass through town without getting a serving of that. As always, it was excellent!"
"The best "homemade" pie you can buy! They have a huge selection depending on the season and we literally grab a pie every time we drive by that place (or at least every other time). The Cherry pie is hard to beat!"
"This is a wonderful local produce distributer. They make fresh pies and you can special order a gluten free pie if you want. It is a little pricey but it could be worth it considering the effort to prepare it properly."
