Reviews
"i just wanted to leave a good review after seeing so many bad ones. i initially found dr. claiborne while i was on medicaid, and he completed some work as well as went over my many options, but in the end when i just asked him to pull a tooth he did. and he saved two teeth with just fillings after many offices told me it was not do-able. i no longer have medicaid, i have private insurance, and decided to go back to him even though i could call around and go anywhere really, he got the work done and was quick and polite throughout. i get very bad anxiety going to the dentist, and even tho i still have bad anxiety going in, its not nearly as bad. i have two cavities that needed fixed awhile back but i was in between insurance coverage, i just called and they got me in for tomorrow morning, which is so quick. yes front desk can be short and seem “rude” but i truly think that this happens many places not just dental offices, i also think people are quick to judge and call someone rude after one encounter. overall dr. claiborne is GREAT! and i look forward to my appointment tomorrow to hopefully get these cavities taken care of!"
"I just now checked (on-line) to see if he was still 'practicing.' As I'm due for a dental cleaning soon. Apparently he still is. I had never read the Google reviews until today, but I concur with many of the one-star ratings. It is true that he is one of very few local providers that will accept Idaho Medicaid for insurance. This doesn't leave many options for those who only have that coverage available to them. That being said, I have seen him several times (because of my State sponsored dental coverage). Here's the bullet points: 1) He IS very rough, I thought it was just carelessness and lack of time after the first visit, but after my third I made myself a mental note to find another provider (even with my insurance limitations). My gums always hurt for a few days after EVERY office visit. This was not an anomaly. It is 'SOP' (Standard Operating Procedure) apparently. 2) The receptionist 'Diane' is, and can be very 'short' and curt when she is not having a 'good' day. And God help you if for whatever reason you arrive slightly late, as you'll hear all about it. If for some reason, you miss an appointment, without canceling in the 24-hour window (hmmmm, how about weekends?) then they will most likely drop you as a patient. And she "commands" from behind a huge, tall, elevated patient intake desk/wall; so you don't always see her 'eye-to-eye' (a common courtesy in most offices). Maybe the office was pre-designed that way 30 years ago? Don't know. I'm sure they LEASE the space, so it is what it is I suppose. 3) He doesn't always use latex or nitrate gloves. I had hand and arm hairs in my mouth twice after getting basic cleanings. Ick! 4) They have been through a plethora of dental assistants here. I wonder why? They typically only stay a short while, then leave for greener pastures (or maybe they were on a 'work-study' type of program for their practice hours)? 5) Parking is limited. Unless you can include the adjoining street for parking access. 6) I too had damage to other (previously completed) dental work, fillings and crown, after a 'basic' cleaning. This was due to the lack of patient care demonstrated and reported here by many others. 7) Most practices will call, text, or email you when it is time for your next covered service (Medicaid allows for a single cleaning per year). I have not heard back from this office since my last visit. They did 'push' for two cleanings per year (which would be great; however, the out of pocket cost was not a viable option for me). After I declined the second recommended dental cleaning, I think they put me in the 'don't follow up' bin. Unsure. 8) He is in this for the money (gander at the tens of thousands of patient chart files in the shelves and the 'back room'). It is a sheer numbers game. Basic economics, lower costs or payment from insurance carriers (Including the State) spread out over a larger number of patients = overall more compensation. This is just my opinion. So...to summarize, If you have no other options, he is slightly adequate; if you have other options, explore those (even if it means traveling to a surrounding town like Nampa, Kuna, Caldwell, Eagle, Star...etc.) I will NOT be returning to this office (unless I run out of other options). Run, don't walk, away as fast as you can. And after posting this review (I waited); I'm not sure they would even see me again...doesn't matter anymore now. I've moved on."
"A bit rough around the edges and dry humor but love the ladies here and Dr Claiborne is great. I hate dental work with a passion. But he’s fixed everything with no issues. I broke a tooth and he fixed it the same day!!! Couldn’t b more happy"
"I went here because out of the 2 places in the area that take Medicaid this is the only one that could get me in this year... the receptionist and the assistant where super nice ladies! The dentist was also nice but rough.. my teeth hurt now.. from a cleaning! It had this feeling the entire time like I didn't want to be there or didn't want this guy jerking my mouth around. I didnt want floruide because im pregnant and he seemed annoyed by this.. its my choice and its one cleaning out of many where i refuse flouride! Apparently I have a cavity.. he offered to fill it in the next few weeks but I declined.. told him I'd wait until my baby is born. The truth is I had this gut feeling I didn't want this guy doing my filling.. I'm so glad I did after reading the reviews on here! If you're sensitive to dental work I'd recommend waiting until you can get in at the other place."
"Receptionist handled my request for a reschedule great, she got me rescheduled for a week later, awesome! Except I got a call 30 minutes later, they told me they Dropped me as a client because I've had to reschedule due to lack of child care. Must be easy to do to medicaid patients since they don't get paid much for servicing us in the first place. No other places in the near by cities serve medicaid adults. So my dental care will have to go without because of dentists like this. People have children and sometimes it happens where people's childcare cancels on them and they have to reschedule appointments! We don't matter and it shows. Guess I don't need my teeth either because again, medicaid. My whole family goes to this office because it's nearly the only place that accepts medicaid for adults, they've all told me Claiborne is rude and really rough, absolutely no consideration of patients pain nor does he care. Thanks Claiborne Dental!! You promote being family friendly, when in fact you aren't."
