"Just had a loved one go through one of the most traumatic experiences of his life at this place. The staff were beyond cruel and, at certain points, crossed a line into being full on abusive. We will be looking into filing a medical malpractice lawsuit. Absolutely avoid this place at all costs if you’re intent on receiving real compassionate care and treatment."
"Stay away. I checked into the IOP because I knew I needed help. But their job, as they understand it, isn't to help, it's to punish you for needing help. The staff, Dianna, in particular is condescending and lied to me multible times. During my intake interview with the psychiatrist, he asked me about my work and school history. I told him that I'd had one job for 11 years since getting out of the military and that I then went to graduate school on a full academic scholarship. He responded, "so you've never been able to hold a job and never done well in school." They aren't trying to help. They're actively trying to make things worse."
"Great psychiatry team and great BHU staff. Probably the best in the Kansas City metro. Would definitely recommend to others with family members in crisis."
"My daughter has been admitted to the psych ward and the services there are abysmal to say the very least. As a parent you want clear understanding as to what the treatment is all about. She is deaf in one ear and some of the staff are very short with her. I have observed this first hand. They do not provide any facilities for TV or music. They have very poor vegetarian selections for food. My daughter spends nearly 3 hours a day staring at the ceiling. How is this even helpful for mental health patients? I am deeply disturbed about the care she has been given. They initially told us that they would keep her for 3-4 days. By law they are required to keep her for 72 hours which I totally understand. Today they changed it to 5 days. My family members who are physicians explained that this is a money game. The more days the patient stays the more money the hospital makes. My child is distraught and does not want to be in a place that does not have music. She is an avid piano player and not having access to music is detrimental to her mental health. I am very very concerned for her well being."
"I made an appointment request online and received a call today. I had put that I wanted an evaluation on mental disorders and treatment. You would think that anyone could read that as meaning an evaluation to receive a diagnosis, possibly a referral, and then a treatment plan. The woman who called had a very condescending tone and seemed to not understand what I meant/acted like I was asking for something abnormal. She asked how I came up with that diagnosis for myself, but I never claimed to have (or even listed) a specific disorder. She was rude and continued to act confused and made me feel stupid for seeking out treatment. Apparently she was right because this is the last place I’d like to be treated after that interaction. Maybe you should be a bit more compassionate when talking to people that are taking the first (usually scary) step of seeking help for their mental health issues."
