Reviews of The Peace Partnership
"I called on the weekend and got no answer, so I truly can't "" rate "" this, but we sure need more peace on this world... Thank you."
"3 1/2 years ago, my then husband and I went to Peace Partnership for counseling with Dr. Carey. I told Dr. Carey that I wanted a Christian therapist to help me find a way to stay with my husband who verbally abused me. I said even Focus on the Family articles that I’d read said I should leave. He said no, they didn’t say that. I said yes they did, I could send him the article. (Btw, I thought it was weird and very childish that he was arguing with me about what I had read.) Dr. Carey said “they meant if he pushes you down the stairs and stomps on your head” then you should leave your husband. I then admitted the physical abuse that my husband had done to me to Dr. Carey, which was the first time I had admitted this to anyone in 17 years of marriage. When I was done he said, “so what does it look like when you have these fights?” I objected to his use of the word “fight” because I had just told him it was one sided! Even my ex corrected him and said it wasn’t mutual abuse, but Dr. Carey again said it sounds like a fight to him. During this session, Dr. Carey said nothing to my ex about him glaring at me menacingly as I shared, I wasn’t asked if I felt safe to go home with him, and most importantly, I said my ex verbally abused my children and Dr. Carey didn’t privately ask me if my kids were physically safe (they absolutely weren’t) and he didn’t report the verbal and emotional abuse of the children to the DFS. I think he should lose his license for not reporting it, as the state of Missouri is a mandatory reporting state. I did eventually get out of the marriage and get my kids safe. I have a DFS report and a divorce decree showing that the court found my ex husband committed ongoing domestic violence to me and my children. Almost two years ago, I wrote Dr. Jon Thompson and requested a meeting with him so I could talk about what happened. He emailed me and said I could just email him. I sent Dr. Thompson an email telling him my story of what happened with Dr. Carey. He has never responded. I’ve given him two years and now I feel like people need to know that Peace Partnership is not a safe place for women or children who are victims of domestic violence. If anyone wants to ask me any questions about my experience, especially Dr. Thompson, I’d be glad to answer."
"These people are the real deal. They are amazing. They were a God sent when my family needed them most."
"I had a terrible experience here when going through my divorce. It is honestly difficult for me to write this review. My ex husband was very controlling and verbally abusive, as well as threatening my life on multiple occasions. That being said, I will try to separate the emotion of that with the experience of the counselor we saw here. Cary was our counselor. We did individual counseling as well as joint sessions. I will start by saying that I was not thrilled about the process of counseling and I felt I made that pretty clear initially. I was seeking a divorce and was basically forced into going to counseling by my ex-husband. On multiple occasions Cary asked if I "was sure I wasn't cheating" because, I quote "you're very attractive". 1. I don't classify myself as "very attractive" and 2. What a completely bizarre and uncomfortable thing to say to a patient on SEVERAL occasions. At, I believe, the last session I went to my ex-husband had apparently disclosed my prior history of sexual assault. When I had my individual session with Cary following that, he seemed very confrontational and accusatory about the fact that I had not previously disclosed my history of sexual assault. Disclosing sexual assault should be the choice of the victim and they should NEVER be made to feel ashamed of not telling someone. I still think about this often. This entire situation still bothers me, but especially the downright hostile treatment by the counselor here."
"Great organization to help families in need of professional, best in class counseling! Financial assistance provided for those who can demonstrate the need."
