"I will be the first to say this business relationship started out great. But over the 3 year span I rented from this landlord things went from great to rough. When I first moved in I did everything and anything he asked me to do at the property I was renting from him. I EVEN went as far as to help him with other rental properties of his. Then there was my separation from my wife that came about. I moved on and I met someone else. Now this person spent A LOT of time at the property I was renting, helped me out with my kids when I had to work nights among other things. At this point they were there a lot but never technically moved in. So time for renewal came around I mentioned the possibility of having her and her child added to the lease. However to this landlord he viewed it as they had moved in. They had clothing there and that was it, no mail, license didn't have the this properties address, vehicle wasn't attached to the address their child went to a completely different school district.....but still they "had moved in" according to the landlord. So he says that they were moved in however he was willing to have this person fill out an application and apply to be added to the lease under normal application requirements. That was fine, then he turns around and says well because your adding 2 people to the lease I am going to up the rent from 950- 1350. REALLY? This was where I finally drew the line. I decided I'm not paying that price for a outdated duplex that had a microwave that was falling apart from move in 3 years prior, a dishwasher that never worked and was never going to be fixed. To the tile at the front door that was outdated and crumbling and falling apart that my 1 year kept grabbing pieces and shoving in his mouth among other things. This landlord liked to talk a good game about safety but never acted on much pass smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector. So we have tile at the front door crumbling and a 1 year old constantly trying to grab pieces and shove them in his mouth (safety issue I'd say so) the fix he had us put duct tape over the spots crumbling!!! Really that's your answer and that is a small thing. Hey let's talk big safety issues shall we? Anyone who knows even a little about codes should realize in a building that has multiple units one or more. There needs to be fire barriers in beteween units in the case of fire it will help prevent spreading it further to the other unit. Why do I bring this up hmmmm.... I will just say think about it a little and you can figure it out. So then move out comes around and he wanted to rush me out wanting to come in as soon as possible to fix and clean things. Had he not rushed me little things would be fixed and cleaned spotless. Upon the move out inspection this landlord states the property looked great. The two of us went over the things I would be charged for and both signed off. A few weeks later this slum lord contacts me and now wants to charge me for every little thing. I swept the basement and missed a very small pile that he charged me 10$ to sweep up and dump in a grocery bag. Are you kidding me? Then remember I told you about how there were things wrong when I moved in. Yeah he wanted to charge me for those too. Like the brick wall in front of the house that was falling apart upon move in. Now somehow I am responsible for that? WTF? So then here is the big kicker ALL these things he had to fix and clean that supposedly ate up a 1000$ deposit plus having to pay an extra 200 plus dollars. Which I will not pay and haven't, the new tenants and I happen to talk and NOTHING had been done!! Okay I apologize I have a novel going here and I can honestly go so much longer. But to save the time and anyone's time still reading this I'll start to finish up. Let me clarify this landlord as a person was a pretty decent person. His wife she is a saint of a women. But be very careful if you rent from him. That's just my opinion and what I went through. Take it as you wish."
"STAY away whatever you do. DO NOT rent from this scam artist. If you like being pestered every few weeks, if you like to be left in the dirt for weeks on end before he fixes issues and then no pay a dime towards his problem, if you LOVE getting stressed out by a sadistic lunatic then go ahead, deal with the devil. Wasted over $3,000 to move out 2 months early. Check image for "private" luxurious flight, car rental and food withdrawn from my security deposit."
