"I had a HORRIBLE experience with this woman. She never took me seriously, practically made fun of my birth plan when reading over how I wanted minimal cervix checks, she stated “We have to check your cervix.” First off, that’s a blatant lie. It may be medically recommended, but a medical professional has absolutely no say in your consent. You don’t have to have cervix checks. But, I was personally fine with having cervix checks, I just wanted to keep them at minimal. I then stated that I needed to use the restroom and she told me “No we need to get through this birth plan first” I told her “No I am going to use the restroom.” I am not a child asking you for permission at school. I am a woman in labor that needs to urinate. I am going to do that when I need to. After I came back from the restroom she then stated that she needs to check my cervix and comes over to do so. I am already uncomfortable with this woman, how she demands her patients, and how she’s made me feel so I start to show visibly through my body language that I am uncomfortable (putting my legs together and facial expressions) As she sees this she tells me “You have to relax so I can do this.” I asked her if there was anyone else who could check my cervix because I was not comfortable with her. She tells me “no.” A blatant lie. My nurse absolutely could and already had just a little while prior. I knew this was lie and called her out and said “That’s not true.” Clearly she was uncomfortable that I was challenging her so called authority and demanded to know where my PTSD was from so that she could provide the proper care. My PTSD had nothing to do with the situation and her demanding for me to relive and explain my personal trauma to her was only going to make my anxiety in that situation worse. I don’t know why a medical professional would ever think that’s an appropriate time to ask a question like that. I, currently dealing with strong and uncomfortable contractions, a demanding and disrespectful doctor with her hands between my legs, and a horrible panic attack, told her to “please leave.” She then exited, and wrote in my notes that my nurse would need to deliver my baby if I were to deliver within her shift. I then received a cervix check from my nurse. The other doctor was on shift when I did deliver, but I would not have minded my nurse delivering my baby. Although she wasn’t perfect, she actually listened to me and treated me like a human being with bodily autonomy. Elizabeth M. Barlet does NOT care about bodily autonomy nor does she treat her patients like real people experiencing the most painful sensations of their lives, the most intimate and invasive situation. Labor and delivery should be comfortable and adaptive to the patient, not the doctor."
"She has been my OB for both of my children. I think she's amazing, the best in my opinion. She's very nice and anytime I had a worry she would take her time to make sure everything was okay and that I had a safe delivery and healthy babies. I would recommend and have!"
"Dr. Barlet has restored my faith in the medical world. Shes so kind, her bedside manner as well as her knowledge and expertise bypassed my expectations at every single visit. I used to hate going to the ob because I felt like i was not listened to, but Dr. Barlet was so patient and listened to me through the tears. She joked with me as things got better. I really feel like theyre are not words good enough to describe her as a doctor as well as a human being."
"I only saw her maybe 2 times before having my child. My labor was very uncomfortable and I felt like she didn't have respect for me as a person."
