"Da: 7/15/19 To: Anyone who needs assistance with moving household items Re: Gateway Moving & Storage Hi Everyone, If you are moving and need to hire a moving company, PLEASE STOP what you are doing and give us your UNDIVIDED ATTENTION. There are many companies to choose from and we cannot tell you about them but stop and run the other way if you are considering Gateway Moving & Storage. Gateway picked up our household items on 6/1/19 and promised to deliver our goods on 6/6, 6/7 or 6/8. Gateway did not honor their commitment. Then we were told they “had” to delivery by 6/20, according to the contract – no call, no show for the entire week. Guess what??? They just dropped it off yesterday (7/14/19) and charged us an additional $1300 for a “bogus” 2 days of storage because they said, “we were not available to accept it”. Mind you… we gave them our schedule because work schedule have us unavailable on certain days. So, in order to justify the extra $1300, they “supposedly” attempted delivery on days they knew we would not be home. And, if you don’t pay the extra bogus fees, they hold your possession, hostage. Our mistake was that we did not check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) which gave them a “F” rating. The horror stories are plentiful but the worst part of all is that they can get away with extortion. None of the entities below, could nor would do anything to stop these thieves. In fact, we were told by the operations manager, Sean, what was going to happen and there was nothing we could do about it. He was bold enough to put it in writing. This tells me they have done this many, many, many times. 1. We wrote the CEO, “supposedly” Kevin, an email and did not hear back from him or anyone else addressing our concerns. 2. Our credit card company disputed the initial 1/3 payment which was eventually returned to them. 3. We filed a police report and an insurance claim with a 3rd party carrier and there was nothing they can do. 4. We contacted the DOT (Dept of Transportation) and they took our report over the phone. 5. We contacted the BBB and filed a report, online. On July 14, 2019, the movers arrived over 4 hours late and had the nerve to ask for another $450 because we have stairs (2nd floor). After they were told (in a not too nice way) to return our money and get the hell out of our house or we’d call the police, they proceeded to unload the truck and carry the heaviest items up the stairs. Still…they did an incomplete job. Some of our items were broke, bruised and missing. They operate within a culture of lies and deceptive practices… including Tony James, Sara Johnson, Jeremy (Dispatch Manager), John Chavez (Regional Dispatch Manager), the delivery guys and anybody else you talk to. Run, run, run the other way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We hope this helps someone else out there."
"TL;DR Do not use this company. They are not rated by BBB. Use my story as a cautionary tale. I would wish this company on anyone. The price of my moved jumped from $5,0000 to $8,000 (plus additional fees at time of delivery) at the time of pick up. Despite having provided them with a complete inventory of goods (even having sold a desk, armoire, and rug- opening up more space I had paid for on the truck), and using their algorithm to calculate the amount of boxes for a one bedroom move, they determined I needed almost 300 sq ft more than what they sold me, resulting in the massive price increase. No one could tell me how it was so grossly underestimated when having an inventory of my belongings. The delivery was made 14 days PAST the 21 day window for delivery. When I filed for compensation, my claim was denied based on "a recording" they claim to have where I was not available for the initial delivery date. When pressed, they will not share with me/play for me the recording they had used to base their decision on. In addition to the pricing nearly doubling, the extreme lateness of my delivery, I also encountered issue with the moving team. I hired the movers to pack, and when they arrived (at 4 pm instead of the 9-11 am window they were scheduled) they were totally unaware of packing part of the contract. And while they were at my house, they repeatedly made inappropriate comments and advances toward me. I am a woman who was making this move alone and because of this the driver other mover saw no issues with repeatedly asking me for my phone number, asking if I would date someone with children, or telling me how much more attractive I would be if I grew my hair out. Fearing possible violence that could happen if I rejected their advances, I tried to ignore their advances and leave the room after each time it happened. I spoke with one woman in customer service who was apologetic and recommended I file a complaint; I also mentioned it to the employee working with my claim. He accused me of bringing it up "at the last minute" despite having spoken with CS about it. He had claimed to have listened to all of my recorded conversations, but claims he never heard the exchange between me and the CS associate about the situation. He followed up by giving me his opinion on how I should have reacted in the situation and because I did not tell them to stop, I must have not "actually" felt unsafe. That is just a fraction of the issues I encountered with this company. Do yourself a favor and use any other moving company."
"If I could give this company NO stars, I would. Worst moving experience of my life! The price kept going up, and my “budget” move cost me $8,000!! Even upon delivery, they charged for the stairs; and all must be payed in cash or postal money order, which needs cash to get. They broke the porch light of our house at pickup. The driver told me that the company sends someone to fix it. No, you fix it and submit the bill. So, I sent in the claim form, and guess what! The post office says insufficient address, unable to forward! I used the full address in St. Louis that was on the website. This company is running a scam. The driver had the audacity to ask for a tip for his helper after breaking the porch light. The contract that they want you to quickly sign over the internet is full of bad news for you. They only insure your goods for a fraction of the value. You must pay more money if you want better insurance. The office staff will tell you anything to get you to sign. Stay away from this company!!"
"Worst moving company in the history of moving companies. Made verbal and written agreements to move my goods, then changed all the prices upon arrival of my moving date. After that proceeded to change all my promised delivery dates as well under the guise of a bunch of technicalities in the contract. Buyer beware. This company is a scam and will take your money and your furniture and then leave you high and dry. DON’T USE THEM!"
"Full Blown SCAM! Don't use this company for ANY reason. They will promise you anything and then when it actually comes time for the move, prices double, everyone in "customer service" is suddenly "unavailable" and they basically think they are fully protected to do whatever they want with no recourse. BEWARE! This company is a SCAM through and through in every aspect."
