"Lived in Monticello for almost 2 years during my masters degree. The apartment was in perfect conditions, the location is amazing as you are in the best part of Central west end, the price was great, and the management was very helpful during my stay. They helped me with any request I had. I really recommend this play to live if you are looking for an affordable central west end place to live!"
"The Monticello Apartments have been accommodating, friendly, and a place which I am lucky enough to have called my (temporary) home! As a graduate student, I was seeking an apartment near my campus. I went to three different complexes, before I stumbled upon the Fairmont/Monticello apartments. The Monticello won me over with it's charm and accessibility. It doesn’t hurt that it is by far the most affordable option in the coveted CWE. Some features which I have loved is the underground parking garage attached to the building, the kindness of the leasing office (S/O Mollie!), and the cleanliness of the building. If you are a graduate student on a budget - you cannot go wrong here! I lived in a studio, but it had 470 sq/ft, so it feels more like a one bedroom."
"I’ve lived at the Monticello for the past seven months and would happily continue my lease here if not for a cross-country move! My studio was clean upon move-in and was spacious for an affordable price. Management was super responsive whenever I had an issue, and sent maintenance to fix things in a matter of days. Mollie and Stephen are great to work with and do a great job getting to know their residents."
"Not the best place to live. Con: No actual space to park a moving truck of any kind besides to street -- you cannot access the alley with a truck. Its a busy street so you'll need to lock and unlock the truck with each load of stuff or have someone stay with the truck at all times. -Moved in after winter holidays and was surprised to find how hot my apartment was -- there is no actual thermostat but instead just dials, so its a trial and error to find a good temp. The units have baseboard heating which is $$$$$ with my first bill being >$100 but landlords will say the units are very efficient and electric cost between $20-50. -The hallways constantly smelled of weed and or garbage and the elevator was incredibly slow.. living on the 6th floor I often took the stairs unless I have lots of groceries. This is a real pain when you're trying to do laundry.. which is in the basement -No service elevator available for renters to use. -Not handicap accessible unless you have access to the garage. -Will perform a "hard inquire" when completing a credit check --which stays on your credit score for 2 years and decreases your credit score. Hard inquires are usually reserved for home/auto loans of large quantities..not an "
"I've lived at the Monticello for a year now and will be sad to leave. The building is quiet, with maintenance quick to respond to any issues. My studio was clean with new or fairly new appliances when I moved in, and the leasing staff were all friendly and helpful when I needed them. Never had a bug problem or anything. Love the location- perfect walking distance to bars and dining options as well as the Wash U campus. I knocked off a star because for a while we had a fire alarm issue in which sometimes multiple times a week the alarms would sound for no reason, sometimes at 5 AM, and the elevator was frequently broken as well. But in the grand scheme of living here those issues were minor annoyances at best and seem to be resolved. I would highly encourage anyone considering living in the CWE to consider the Monticello."
