About the Business
Livestock Exchange LLC, located at 1600 Genessee Street in Kansas City, Missouri, is a historic institution that has been a cornerstone of commerce in the western territory since 1910. Originally built as a fortress of commerce, the Livestock Exchange Building housed a variety of businesses including the Stockyards Company, telegraph offices, banks, restaurants, railroad and packing house representatives, and government agencies.
With 475 offices, the Livestock Exchange Building was the largest livestock exchange building in the world and one of the largest office buildings in Kansas City. The stockyards, which became an independent company in 1871, grew over time to encompass 207 acres and became home to the Livestock Exchange Building.
In 1923, the Kansas City stockyards set a world record for a day's receipts of cattle, with 60,206 head passing through. The handling capacity of the yards was impressive, with the ability to accommodate 70,000 cattle, 50,000 hogs, 50,000 sheep, and 5,000 horses and mules.
Today, the Livestock Exchange Building continues to be a hub of activity and a well-maintained pulse of the city. Its architectural beauty and historical significance make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the rich history of Kansas City's livestock industry.

Reviews
"My sister used to work there. It's a piece of KC history next to the old stockyards."
"I love that people (mostly artists) pioneered a new use for this classic location. Really enjoy going to Open Studios to see what new works are happening and people are friendly for the most part. There are also nearby restaurants and such that keep it vibrant as the neighborhood opens itself to a new generation of gentrification."
"I love hanging out in the bottoms ..it's becoming g trendy with eaterys an brewerys"
"Fabulous place to see amazing local fine art during the 2-3 scheduled open studios in an incredible historic building."
