"Harvest Home Coming on the courtyard around the old courthouse. Lots of different vendors. Really enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there."
"The courthouse and all the buildings and little shops are really cute and the shops are q u a i n t and have a lot of neat stuff. The area is kind of Rundown but that's what I would expect from a historic district. But it's really cool to look in some of the shops and especially that mural around the corner you don't even know it's there there's beautiful hand-painted murals all over harrison. Definitely worth going to! My husband went to the cafe there in town right across from the courthouse and he loved the food it was really good he says!"
"We stayed the night in Harrison specifically to see the Mountain Meadows Massacre memorial monument on the northeast lawn of the Boone County Courthouse in the Historic District. If you have not heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, where 140 men, women, and children of the Baker–Fancher emigrant wagon train to California were murdered by Mormon settlers in Utah, you should learn about it. The victims were from farms in the vicinity of Harrison, and their kin live here today. The names and ages of the victims are listed. It is chilling to see how many teens and children were murdered, how many mothers and fathers, and to realize these were real people whose corpses were left to rot where they fell after they were shot or stabbed to death. The biblical inscription "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord" has a special meaning here: two years after the massacre, a US Army cavalry company found and collected the scattered bones and buried them in a mass grave. Over it they erected a large wooden cross with the Vengeance passage carved into the cross beam. ."
"I visited family here over 20 years ago and it was a very lovely place. I have moved here to take care of family and this town is nothing like it was. Perhaps the covid ruined it or the politics of the town, or both."
"Very beautiful town! The only problem being is that if you're in town and decided to vacation here the area only offers a very few select of restaurants making it a little difficult to find a place to eat with the family. with the nearest decent restaurant being almost three hours away. Its a very beautiful town but as far as vacationing here I'd say NO."
