Reviews of Historic Van Winkle Trailhead
"Love this for walking & learning about history. Mostly a place to get your walking or running steps in. It's mostly gravel with the uphill and tunnel paved. During flood season there's not much to see but water. Otherwise you can see ruins, mostly foundations and stones of old buildings. Good signage with stuff to read about. About 0.7 mile trail with multiple benches. Slight incline to get back to the parking lot so beware. Pets allowed on leashes. Restrooms are nice. Also check out the sinking stream trail nearby!"
"Well maintained archeological/historical site with gravel trails, informative signs and creeks that run long both sides. Great leisurely hike about 1 mile round trip."
"Its a great place of history. Everyone should check it out! Loved the peace and quiet and bieng in God's beautiful nature!"
"What a beautiful place with such interesting local history! The whole loop is about a mile, on a gravel trail with mild inclines. The history is well signed. There are about 8 historic sites identified. It is also a beautiful natural area. There is a restroom here."
"Scenic trails follow a cool spring fed creek. There is also plenty of history to read about as you walk. Done sudden elevation changes causing steep grades, but a fairly simple hike."
