"Large statue of a pioneer family headed West commemorating the role of the pioneer women who suffered undue hardships. It is kind of hard to spot as it was a bit overgrown. Lots of people walking g dogs but peaceful. The inscription on the base reads: Whither thou goest I will go Where thou lodgest I will Lodge Thy people shall be my people land thy God my God I believe it was erected in the late 1920s and I had read the sculptor’s own mother has traveled on the Oregon Trail in search of a better life."
"Homeless junkie was shooting up in the grass, not a very nice surprise."
"Pretty cool memorial. Having kids in 2023 seems like a lot of work. Taking a week trip to Disney seems like hell. But these mothers were taking their kids on a 6 month road trip through many dangers. Couldn't imagine"
"Important statue to save. Suggest for Kansas City to allow this statue to be moved to Westport, as requested by many. There were reportedly 30,000 people that came to its unveiling 1927 and now it is all but forgotten in an obscure location within the park with no maintenance and weeds growing all around it - a shame. My family uses this statue as a memorial to one of our ancestors who died from cholera on the overland trail in 1852 just outside of Westport. We have no grave site for her so this statue is the closest thing we've got. Please maintain this statue for all of those who may be doing the same thing, and for all of those who cherish the sacrifices women made on their tenuous journeys west."
"August 2018, a statue commemorating the Pioneer Mother who with unfaltering trust in God suffered the hardship of the unknown West to prepare for us a homeland of peace and plenty"
