Reviews of Brookside Charter School
"I went to this school for 3 whole years. The first year was okay and i actually enjoyed it but the last 2 years were horrible. I remember there was so much girl drama. the food was beyond terrible, one morning boys were smoking marijuana in the bathroom, kids would skip class, teachers would bully the students, and trouble surrounded that school. Parents I would not recommend you to send them to this terrible school its horrible and learning is not taken seriously at this school."
"Brookside is a joke the same work at Dollar Tree my 6 year old get for homework. Teachers are not certified to teach you have parents that never took a teaching class filling in for supposed to be teachers who call in. The supertindent is acting like the principal so what does the principal do? They need real administration an not some Google want a be teachers. Just because your in the inner city just don't make it look good on the outside put that money to good use by doing what's right on the inside meaning good teachers so Our Kids can learn. Not to knock it but most parents send they kids there because they can wear anything if you put uniforms in Brookside I guarantee school attendance will drop."
"This school is it self has protentials but there's alot of bad apples within the school. Staff turn their and closed their eyes to all the things that parents or students complain about or concerned about. Mr.Offield doesn't take his job seriously, they always want to call home on the kids about things thats not worth the call . Kids always in support room , which is a water of money to have someone else doing what the teachers are to be doing. Kids don't learn nothing. Teachers don't want to help with work as if they are not sure of it. It's okay for the teachers o talk to and treat you're kids any way the want . Kids are deprived of learning , food and just respect. A lot of favoritism plays in the school. Kids of staff members who attends the school are treated better then others. Staff members who want to speak out and have a lot to say ant and or won't because they scared of losing position for speaking up. Communication is the worst ever.Nobody every knows anything about anything until you advise them. Kids are picked in by staff members kids or family members. Teachers making inappropriate comments and action towards the kids.. Staff members out of control.. Kids are left in a uncomfortable position. Parents ....Speak up, let you voice be heard...The school are speaking on Anti bullying and the school allows the kids to do so ... Spoke with the Board of Charter and I don't think they will be much help either.. She gonna speak with Mr.Offield, for what I've been doing this talking for years and they still don't hear your concerns. I feel this may have to be took viraul or to the News just to get resolution..Well who better then Problem Solvers...."
"My daughter is 10 and in the fourth grade. It's her second year at the school and she really likes it. The staff and her teachers are very caring and attentive. I do have a few concerns though. I feel like the homework load isn't enough, and there aren't any take home projects for the students. I feel that to prepare them for higher grades those types of things need to be happening."
"First review three years ago is scary. Glad we weren't there at that time. Our son started attending Brookside in 1st grade (7 yrs old-2011) and we have had no problems thankfully. He is autistic and the staff and teacher have been wonderful. Ms. Snow is a God send. I love her so much. She puts her heart into those kids. Our daughter who stutters badly and refuses to talk. She's quiet, shy and withdrawn started kindergarten in 2012 and flourished under Brookside's care. Ms Jefferson her teacher was amazing! Our last child will be starting kindergarten this year, 2013-2014 and we don't expect anything less than spectacular from the staff and teachers. We found teacher's and staff easy to talk to, easy to reach, easy to meet with and so ready to work with any situations that might come up. The Principal is very hands on and always visible so if we ever needed to speak with him, it wasn't your typical search and find mission. Assistant Principal, the same thing. Right at the forefront, easily accessible and very personable. I appreciate how quickly they learn a child's name with so many kids. We get a great big smile and a hearty warm "Good morning!" as we come into the building and the same big smile with a "Have a great night, see you tomorrow" as we exit the building. What a terrific way to start school! Makes the kids feel special that they are really welcome and that people are glad to see them. This is a great school and would love to see them expand to High School grades. I see many positive things happening at Brookside that can only make them get better than they already are."
