Reviews of Birth Center
"So the place was nice. But as stated earlier by another guest they did not adhere to the birth plan and were very pushy about things even after being told no repeatedly. And they basically shamed and nagged me into getting a epidural. And to the staff: you can't pour a can of cream of chicken soup in a bowl microwave it and then claim it's chicken pot pie. Bring your own snacks. Because I walked the entire hospital and every single snack machine was "not ready by vender" this did not change the entire time I was there. The sofa machine right next to them supplied by the same vendor all worked fine though. But be warned because several of them aloud several soda purchases on the same swipe, you must push cancel before walking away or the next person may purchase a soda on your card. Three Days after giving birth and still haven't had a MD come check on me except to discharge me. Bottom line is they made us come take a tour of the facility and told us how everything was supposed to work and actually none of that was true they didn't follow any procedures they claimed to and then the rooms didn't work the way they claimed they did. Like climate controlled rooms, only all the thermostats were just for show and didn't adjust the temp in the rooms at all. They would even forget to do things like bring scheduled medication. I would have to call them and remind them that they were an hour late I'm bringing my medicine. Worst thing!: A male family member who I had no idea even knew I was giving birth was able to walk right through their three so called "check points" and right into my room. They never even asked his name. And they didn't change the bed sheets the entire time I was there"
"As a first time Mom the birthing experience I had at this facility was horrific. None of the staff read my birth plan or followed it. It was exhausting repeating myself and advocating my decisions. This facility although claiming to be person centered, were absolutely not. If I said no to anything I had to endure 2 lectures, sign a doc stating my refusal and that their staff would not bring up the subject again - only for them to continue having more staff bringing up the same topic. They don't respect any decisions parents make no matter how small and expect the patient to be a "yes man" and go along with anything they say blindly. To make matters worse some of their nurses would make snobby jokes that were incredibly unprofessional and NOT what anyone wants to hear while going through labor. I had one nurse comment how awful I looked and how my hair was a mess when I was in the middle of labor (no meds). I ended up having an emergency c section and no one came afterwards to go over c section aftercare or to go over my birthing experience. None of the staff gave informative information unless I asked and most of my questions were left unanswered. Most of the time I asked a question the nurses responses were "I'm not sure" or "I don't know" with no attempt from their staff of finding the answers. The sooner I could leave this place, the better. I do not reccomend anyone going to this facility."
"My wife and I had an amazing experience here. Our son had to go to NICU unexpectedly, then other complications happened as well, resulting in us staying much longer than we ever anticipated. Throughout the entire time, every nurse and physician and staff member was so kind, caring, and thorough. Dr. Jackson in NICU and the nurses there, as well as Julie in Labor and Delivery, and Jacqueline on 3rd floor, particularly stood out in their care for my wife and son. In addition, the lactation consultant team here is absolutely wonderful. I would not hesitate to have my family be under their care again in the future and am so deeply thankful for each one of them."
"I am really impressed with my experience with birth center and advent health shawnee ks hospital. My c section went smoothly. The doctors and nurses were very helpful, attentive, and cared about my experience. My stay at the hospital was very enjoyable and the food is decent from the cafeteria. My nurses made sure I wasn't in pain and made sure I had everything I needed to recover after my c section. My baby boy needed to be Nicu for 2 and half weeks. I can't say enough about the care he received. I felt comfortable to take time to recover bc I knew he was in good hands being monitored. The docs made sure he was ready and i am so thankful they do a Car Seat test before clearing a baby to go home. My doc who did my c section were doctor Eckert and grounds. My nurse Natalie was great when I got my epidural ( moment i remember is she held my hands and put her forgead to mine so i could lean forward ) and Nate anasticioulogist, made sure to it was done right fully numb. If anyone looking for staff and great experience with giving birth, I recommend the Birth Center. Enjoy pics of my stay , my food for 3 days in hospital, and just my stay in general. The video is cafeteria you can go to and if you stay in hospital your one guest gets coupons for 6 bucks off."
"Cannot imagine a better place to give birth. The nurses here are absolutely incredible. My husband and I felt so taken care of from the time we were admitted to the time we were discharged with a healthy baby boy. The facilities are also very beautiful and functional. Other than wishing they had a queen or king bed so my husband could lay with me instead of a hard fold out, there was nothing else to want."
