Reviews of Carden International Circus
"It wasn't a bad show. I read the reviews talking about the whips and was nervous about being there but once I was actually there and watching the animals perform, it was clear that they weren't being hit by the whips. It appeared to be used as a gesture/audio cues. Even when the whips touched the animals, it was never a hit. The handler never even moved the whip in a way that could mistakenly hurt the animals. The animals seemed healthy and happy (barring the elephants who looked kind of tired and old) and the tricks they performed weren't harmful at all. That being said, I still don't care for animal shows. I don't even care much for horse racing. Other than that, it was clearly a show dedicated to young children, which is fine, but I'm not a young child so that part wasn't really for me. The performers were great and the stunts were cool. Everything was horribly overpriced though."
"Okay, I know there are controversies about circus animals but I have to say, Betty the elephant does look miserable however, I’m not sure of her age, I believe she’s old. I don’t think she’s really miserable I just think she’s tired and y’all should possibly allow her to retire soon. She was beautiful and my son absolutely loved her! The camels, beautiful, the acts were crazy good. My kids never get off their cell phones and they actually did for this entire show! We had an amazing time. All of their animals look very healthy and well cared for. People talk about the horses ribs. I think because of the lighting the horses ribs show depending on how the lights hit, they are clearly healthy, muscular and not overweight. A vet will tell you even for animals like dogs you’re supposed to be able to easily feel their ribs! I believe there is NO abuse you can always tell by an animals scars and these animals have none. I do have to say I was concerned about the horses, one had it’s tongue hanging out the entire time and another tried to run from the man with the whips, but I was watching intensely and he NEVER ever hit them he used the whip ropes to hit the ground to direct them on which way to go and cue them as to what trick to do! I got upset about the horses because of the harness but upon further research I found out foaming happens at the mouth when harnessed because they are relaxed and playing with the bar in their mouth lol so I have edited my review. I cannot speak to what happens behind closed doors but it appeared they love their horses giving them lovins and pets and treats! Miss Betty got a huge treat! I applaud the show and my family loved it!! Prices were expensive for camel rides so I do wish they had a package for that like kind of like wrist bands at a fair but overall I give 5 stars! This show was in Poplar Bluff mo."
"Wasted money. Left during intermission. They most definitely abuse their animals and don’t hide it. When they did a show with a buffalo. The buffalo tripped and threw the man on top of him. He was then roaming the arena and flinched when the performer went near him. The horses were extremely skinny. Not fun at all. Most of the performances were not done properly. Most messed up, almost as they had little training. I understand people can mess up but this was almost at every segment. Last circus I went was animal-free. I failed to check that with this circus. I would save my money for a better circus that’s animal free."
"I have never been to a circus until I came across this one and let me tell you, I will never be going again. It was heartbreaking seeing these animals basically suffer. The elephants looked absolutely horrible, dragging along. The camels humps were all floppy which means they probably haven’t ate in days. The cats were being thrown around like dolls. I 100% do not recommend if you love animals. The performers on the other hand, were absolutely amazing and did a great show, they are very good at what they do. Seeing The animals made me want to leave. They would be better off without them."
"If I could give negative stars I would. Absolutely disgusted by the way they treated the animals. It says on their website that they don’t believe in abusing their animals and they’re treated with care. This is NOT at all what I saw in their performance tonight. Left early, in tears because I couldn’t stand seeing the animals being mistreated that way. They’re whipping the Buffalo to keep them running, using batons on the elephants when the elephants so clearly needed a break, throwing cats around like they’re toys. It was so disheartening to see. The human performances were amazing and they do NOT NEED ANIMALS. No one, especially helpless animals, deserve to be forced to perform against their will. So disappointed since this is my first experience with a circus. Will not be going to another circus after this. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe it. Plus the prices for everything is outrageous. $7 for cotton candy, $35 for light up toys, and $15 for snow cones? No thank you! Wouldn’t recommend at all unless you’re okay with animal abuse."
