"Thank you for everything you have done for us. My husband has been in and out of many different facilities until Select took him. The staff was amazing his Dr. figured out he was over medicated and then our world looked brighter. The cna' were the best I have had the pleasure of watching them attend to his needs. Therapy getting him up so he could continue his therapy else where. If I give you a 10 I would. Thank you all again."
"Good Morning I just have to give a BIG shoutout to this facility. They were GOLDEN to my husband!!!! The care given was second to none. When I say EVERYONE I mean EVERYONE was amazing and so personable. From Housekeeping to the Doctors all were amazing!! Thank you so much for all you did for my husband. I will never forget you!!!!"
"After reading the reviews I was hesitant to place my mother here, but had limited options for the level of care she needed. Their staff has been VERY positive, gentle, and accommodating to my mom and my family. With my mothers brain injury a previous hospital Dr told me basically to consider hospice since she was in somewhat of a vegetative state. I chose Select to essentially give me some time before I made that decision. I’m so grateful I did. Their staff now has her alert, opening her eyes, and talking to us!"
"The staff was amazing when we were there. I called everyday to check on my sister. She was there about 3 weeks. While she was there she did receive great care. Our issues were with discharge. The miscommunication between medical supply companies and the hospital is insane. We brought her home with a feeding tube and trach. I didn't have any supplies for the trach machine for 4 days. Until I had to call an ambulance to suction her out. Now we are unable to get her out of bed because the wheelchair wasn't checked prior to leaving the hospital. She needed an extra large wheelchair and was sent home with a pediatric wheelchair. Now let's get to her hair. She was up in her chair everyday and had a brush that I provided. One nurse was amazing and brushed it out. Her hair when she got home is stuck to the back of her head in a knot. I am pretty sure I will have to shave her bald because they didn't brush her hair. Once I can get her out of bed I'll try to brush it out. It takes 5 minutes to brush someone's hair, what a shame."
"I liked all my doctors and therapists. I also liked most of the nurses, although there were a few I didn't like. Some that I thought did an outstanding job were night nurses Angela (especially impressive/outstanding), Patrick, Edwin, Betty, day nurses Rebecca (senior), Carolyn, Jessica, and some others whose name I can't remember now. I didn't like the House Supervisor Olen (at the end of my stay) and their supervisor, Heather. Olen was friendly and helpful at first, then at the end belittled and insulted me when he and I had a conversation/conflict about things that were within my rights to do but were inconvenient for him. He also accused me of "tattling" on the nurse's aide who woke me up to empty my trash at 5:30am, and told me "You are a grown man". I had good experiences with the night House Supervisor Dustin, and nurse/House Supervisor Colby. There was not much horizontal/counter and closet space for my possessions in the room, nor for toiletries in the bathroom (no counter by/around the sink at all, just a small shelf about 12" by 6" if that big), and a lack of chairs for visitors (although I was brought an extra chair when I asked). The TP was not the worst (I'm looking at you St. Luke's!), but definitely not Charmin. It seems like Select was trying to cut costs in these areas. There seemed to be a mild shortage of nurses and especially nurse's aides. The call button was usually answered fairly quickly but sometimes took up to 40 minutes during the busiest parts of the day. It seems like that was the case at all 4 hospitals I have stayed at recently, so maybe there is a metro-wide shortage. I thought the food was fine and rarely delivered late, and kitchen manager Pat? did a good job of accommodating my special food requirements for my healing esophagus. If anyone at Select would like more detailed info., feel free to leave your contact info. in a reply to this post. EDIT: I should mention that their corporate policy is to not take blood draws from an IV or PIC line, so you'll probably get stuck with a needle twice a week in the middle of the night, and whenever else they need to test your blood. They did not do this at St. Luke's, Advent, and KU Med."
